It’s official now: USA, Mexico and China join Australia, Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico and Chinese Taipei in the Finals next year in Redcliffe, Australia.

USA and Mexico claimed the two tickets on offer at the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Oklahoma City on the final day of competition at Devon Park on Wednesday, while third-placed China secured the second Wild Card to the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027.

Hosts USA became the first team to book their Finals 2027 ticket with a 7-0, six-inning victory over China. Maya Brady powered the offence with three home runs and five RBIs, while Rachel Garcia and Karlyn Pickens combined for the shutout.

Mexico then advanced to the decisive game by defeating the Netherlands 7-0 in five innings. After four scoreless frames, Mexico erupted for seven runs in the fifth, highlighted by Suzy Brookshire’s grand slam. Mariah Mazon pitched a three-hit shutout.

In the last game of Group Oklahoma, Mexico defeated China to claim the second ticket to Redcliffe, Australia next year. China’s third-place finish was enough to secure the second Wild Card and a place in the Finals 2027.

USA, Mexico and China therefore join Australia, Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico and Chinese Taipei in the eight-team Finals field in Redcliffe, Australia.

Earlier in the morning, New Zealand opened the day with a 7-0, six-inning victory over Brazil in the placement game to finish fifth.

USA 7-0 China

USA became the first team from Group Oklahoma City to claim a ticket to the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027, defeating China 7-0 in six innings.

Maya Brady led the USA offence with three home runs and five RBIs. USA took control with four runs in the first inning, as Brady and Tiare Jennings each hit two-run homers, before Brady added a solo shot in the second for a 5-0 lead.

Karlyn Pickens pitched three scoreless innings and Rachel Garcia retired all nine batters she faced, striking out six, to complete the no hitter.

Brady ended the game in the sixth with her third home run, a two-run shot to right-center field that sealed the run-ahead victory.

Mexico 7-0 Netherlands

Mexico scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to defeat the Netherlands 7-0 in five innings and advance to the final qualification game against China.

The game remained scoreless through four innings before Mexico broke it open in the fifth. Cassandra Valdez drove in the first run with a triple down the left-field line, before Isabela Emerling singled and Sarah Perez added an RBI infield single.

With the bases loaded, Suzannah Brookshire delivered the decisive blow, launching a 254-foot grand slam to deep left-centerfield to make it 7-0.

Mariah Mazon completed the shutout for Mexico, allowing three hits and one walk over five innings. Brookshire finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

The win saw Mexico move on to meet China in the final play-off game of Group Oklahoma City, with the winner earning the second direct ticket to the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027.

Mexico 8-6 China

Mexico defeated China 8-6 in the decisive game at Devon Park to secure the second direct ticket from Group Oklahoma City to the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027.

The teams traded runs throughout the game, with Mexico leading 4-1 after two innings before China pulled level at 6-6 in the fourth. Mexico regained the lead with a run in the fifth and added another in the sixth before holding China scoreless over the final three innings.

Kayden Henry led Mexico’s offence, going 4-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs, including two doubles. Mya Perez added two hits and three RBIs, while Alexia Lopez went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Citlaz Gutierrez started in the circle before Mariah Mazon pitched five innings in relief, allowing three runs on five hits. Gutierrez was the winning pitcher.

With the victory, Mexico joined USA as the teams to claim the two Finals 2027 tickets from Oklahoma City, while China secured the second Wild Card and also advance to Redcliffe, Australia.

New Zealand 7-0 Brazil

New Zealand closed its WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup 2026 Group Oklahoma City campaign with a 7-0 victory over Brazil in six innings in Wednesday’s placement game at Devon Park.

New Zealand opened the scoring in the second inning before adding another run in the fourth and breaking the game open with three in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Syah Reign Hale led the offence, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Erin Blackmore also collected two hits. New Zealand finished with nine hits, with six different players scoring a run.

McKenzie Bailey-McDowell earned the win after pitching three scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out four. Rita Huata completed the shutout with three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out five. The pair combined for nine strikeouts.

Brazil were held to two hits, one each from Gabby Coffey and Esther Carvalho. Carvalho took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits over five innings.

New Zealand finish the tournament in fifth place with Brazil sixth.
