Team USA completed a perfect Opening Round with a 7-0, six-inning win over China in the final game of Day 4, securing first place in the standings.

China finished second, while the Netherlands and Mexico took third and fourth respectively.

Earlier, the Netherlands defeated Brazil 6-1, China walked off Mexico 2-1 and New Zealand earned their first win with a 17-2 victory over Brazil. The four Play-Off teams and Wednesday’s match-ups are now set.

USA and China entered the final game of the Opening Round as the only two unbeaten teams, with first place at stake.

USA took control early and went on to defeat China 7-0 in six innings, finishing the Opening Round with a perfect 5-0 record.

Skylar Wallace went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and was named Player of the Day, while Alexis Kilfoyl and Kelly Maxwell combined on a two-hit shutout. China finished second at 4-1.

Earlier in the day, the Netherlands secured a Play-Off berth with a 6-1 victory over Brazil. Sterre den Duijn went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, while J’dah Girigorie threw a complete game with nine strikeouts.

China then recorded their second consecutive walk-off victory, edging Mexico 2-1. Sang Yujuan delivered the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh after China had tied the game in the sixth. Chai Yinan pitched a complete game to earn the win.

New Zealand closed their Opening Round with their first victory, defeating Brazil 17-2 in four innings after scoring 15 runs in the second. The result left New Zealand fifth at 1-4 and Brazil sixth at 0-5.

With the Opening Round complete, USA (5-0) and China (4-1) will meet again on Wednesday at 13:00 in the 1st-v-2nd Play-Off game, with the winner securing a place in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027.

The Netherlands (3-2) and Mexico (2-3) will face each other in an elimination game at 16:00, with the winner advancing to the repechage against the loser of USA-China for the second ticket to the Finals at 19:00.

New Zealand and Brazil will meet again in the fifth-place game, at 10:00.

USA 7-0 China

USA completed an unbeaten Opening Round with a 7-0, six-inning victory over China, taking first place in the standings ahead of Wednesday’s Play-Offs.

USA scored twice in the first inning and never looked back. Skylar Wallace drove in both runs with a two-run double, before USA added another run in the second, on a solo homer by Dejah Mulipola, to make it 3-0.

The hosts extended the lead in the fourth with back to back homers by Megan Grant and Aubrey Leach. USA scored twice in the sixth, on a pinch-hit homer by Rachel Garcia and a bases loaded, walk-off single by Wallace.

Alexis Kilfoyl and Kelly Maxwell combined on the two-hit shutout. Kilfoyl earned the win after allowing one hit over four innings with five strikeouts and no walks. Maxwell pitched the final two innings, also allowing one hit while striking out three.

USA finished the Opening Round in first place with a perfect 5-0 record, while China finished second at 4-1. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday in the 1st-v-2nd Play-Off game, with the winner securing a place in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027.

Netherlands 6-1 Brazil

The Netherlands secured their place in the Play-Offs with a 6-1 victory over Brazil, eliminating the South American side from contention and confirming the four teams that will advance from the Opening Round.

The Dutch broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the third inning. Sterre den Duijn delivered the biggest offensive performance, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including a three-run homer. She added another run-scoring hit as the Netherlands extended their advantage to 5-0 in the fifth.

Brazil got on the board in the sixth through an RBI single by Gabby Coffey, but the Netherlands answered with another run in the bottom half to complete the 6-1 win.

J’dah Girigorie pitched a complete game for the Netherlands, allowing one run on five hits while striking out nine and issuing no walks. Esther Carvalho took the loss for Brazil after allowing five runs, none earned, on four hits and three walks over 4.1 innings.

The Netherlands improved to 3-2, while Brazil dropped to 0-4.

China 2-1 Mexico

China claimed its second consecutive walk-off victory, edging Mexico 2-1 to improve to 4-0 in Oklahoma City.

Mexico took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Makayla Medellin singled and later scored on an RBI single by Alexia Lopez.

Mariah Mazon kept China scoreless through five innings as Mexico protected the one-run advantage.

China finally broke through in the sixth. Lu Xing homered over the center field fence to tie the game.

In the bottom of the seventh, Sang Yujjuan singled in Pinch runner Lu Xiaomin to give China their second straight 2-1 walk-off victory, following Monday’s win over the Netherlands by the same score.

Chai Yinan earned the win with a complete-game performance, allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out six. Mazon took the loss despite allowing only four hits and one earned run over 6.1 innings, with seven strikeouts.

China improved to 4-0 ahead of their Opening Round finale against USA, while Mexico dropped to 2-3.

New Zealand 17-2 Brazil

New Zealand closed its Opening Round campaign with an emphatic 17-2 victory over Brazil in four innings, scoring 15 runs in the second inning to take control of the game.

After a scoreless first, New Zealand sent 20 batters to the plate in the second and turned the game into a one-sided game. Mereana Makea and Lara Andrews each drove in three runs in the game, while Shay Hale and Keri Simeon collected two RBIs apiece.

New Zealand added a run in each of the third and fourth innings to reach 17. Brazil scored their only two runs in the third on Gabriela Nunes’ two-run home run.

Charlotte Graham earned the win with a four-inning complete game, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out four and issuing no walks.

New Zealand finished the Opening Round at 1-4, while Brazil dropped to 0-5. Both teams will meet again in Wednesday’s fifth-place game.
