International News: Team USA Opens with Win in WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup 2026 Group Oklahoma City (Sept. 13, 2026)

China, the Netherlands and USA all opened their WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup 2026 Group Oklahoma City campaigns with victories on Saturday at Devon Park.

China started the tournament with a 9-0 win over Brazil in five innings, collecting 10 hits while Sun Yue and the Chinese pitching staff held Brazil to one.

The Netherlands then came from behind to defeat New Zealand 8-6, erasing an early 3-0 deficit with seven runs across the fourth and fifth innings.

In the final game, hosts USA defeated Mexico 11-0 in four innings, powered by 12 hits, including home runs from Dejah Mulipola, Alyssa Brito and Janae Jefferson. Rachel Garcia and Alexis Kilfoyl combined on a one-hit shutout.

China, the Netherlands and USA finish Opening Day with 1-0 records, while Brazil, New Zealand and Mexico are 0-1.

Coming up on Sunday

Four games are scheduled for 13 September, with China and New Zealand opening Day 2 at 10:00. USA will face Brazil at 13:00, followed by Mexico against the Netherlands at 16:00. The Netherlands will return for their second game of the day against USA at 19:00.

USA 11-0 Mexico (4 innings)

USA opened their campaign with an 11-0, four-inning win over Mexico, scoring four runs in the second inning and seven in the third. The hosts collected 12 hits, while holding Mexico to one.

USA hit three home runs in the win. Dejah Mulipola, Alyssa Brito and Janae Jefferson each homered and drove in two runs. Jefferson finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs, while Maya Brady went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Erin Coffel also drove in two runs.

Rachel Garcia pitched three hitless innings, allowing one walk and striking out five; while Kilfoyl worked the fourth inning, allowing one hit and striking out one. Together, they combined on a one-hit shutout. Citlaly Gutierrez took the loss for Mexico.

USA are 1-0, while Mexico are 0-1.

Netherlands 8-6 New Zealand

The Netherlands came from behind to defeat New Zealand 8-6, overturning an early 3-0 deficit with three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Annemiek Jansen and Maxime van Dalen homered for the European side. Jansen went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run, while van Dalen was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run. Laura Wissink also drove in two runs.

China 9-0 Brazil (5 innings)

China opened the tournament with a 9-0, five-inning win over Brazil, scoring once in the first, three times in the second and five in the third. China finished with 10 hits, while Brazil was held to one.

Key performers: Xiaoyan He went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs, while Wang Mengru was 2-for-3 with two runs. Yan Siyu also contributed two RBIs and two runs, and Xie Jiaxin went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Sun Yue earned the win for China, while Esther Carvalho took the loss for Brazil. China claimed their first win of the tournament, while Brazil start 0-1.
