Mike White’s Univ. of Texas program was looking for an excellent pitching candidate and locked one down today when Lauren Schellhammer committed on her official visit to the SEC school’s Austin, Texas campus.

A member of the Top Gun 16U – National team coached by Joe Sciara, Lauren was ranked No. 4 in this month’s release of the Line Drive Media 2028 HOT 100.

Bob Turner, the Director of the Top Gun National Program, said this today about the talents of his two-way player:

“Lauren is a 5-foot-11 power pitcher out of the state of Minnesota with elite stuff.  She works vertically through the zone, with velocity verified at 72 mph, and a change-up that is challenging for opposing offenses.”

“Offensively, Lauren’s a tough out in the box who swings it with tremendous power.  An elite two-way competitor who can get it done on both sides of the ball, we couldn’t be more excited for her to learn and grow under Coach White and the terrific Longhorn staff!”

The hard throwing 2028 standout was also considering other top programs such as Stanford, Duke, Arizona and Northwestern.

In the classroom, Lauren has a 4.0 GPA in honors courses and plans to be a doctor when her playing days are over.

Lauren is one of the top velocity kids in the country as the right-handed was verified at 70 mph by Showtime Sports, who ranked her as the No. 2 overall player in the Class of 2028. Breakdown Sports USA recognized her as one of the Top Power Arms in Minnesota while playing for the Catalyst 16U National team previously. From Lakeville, Minn., Lauren is 5-foot-11 and will spin her rise ball at multiple levels, along with a drop ball and knee-buckling change up.  While playing for Top Gun 16 National this summer, she was outstanding with 40 K’s in 22.1 innings, a 1.88 ERA, a .173 BAA and a 15.54 swing-and-miss percentage. Also a very accomplished hitter, Lauren batted .394 with two home runs, five doubles, and drove in 16 in only 33 at bats.  Her performances helped the 2028 standout secure All Tournament honors at the Triple Crown National Championships in St Louis. Her softball accolades already include being named All-State, All Section, and All Conference.  Lauren is receiving strong recruiting interest nationwide from all the major Power 4 conferences.
