“It’s unbelievable” said Head Coach Patty Gasso. “It’s really about the players, they believed in our system, they worked together in a short period of time to train and they just really executed. They were outstanding. So it’s been a blessing. It’s been very fun,”

“The final was fun,” said winning pitcher said Megan Faraimo.: It’s a little tough having two games in one day, but I’m so grateful that they were able to get us on the field to play.”

“And I’m just so proud of this team for coming back and fighting some more to get that win.”

For Chinese Taipei, this tournament marks their second silver medal at a major event, after placing runner-up at the 1982 WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup on home soil.

“This medal is very special to me,” said Liu Hsuan, one of the captains of the team. It means that our previous efforts have not been in vain. And we can stand on the podium,”

“This medal gives us a good motivation to move forward.” Hsuan continued, “and we will continue to work hard to grow in the future. There may be some difficulties in this process, but we will continue to move forward.”

Asked about Chinese Taipei making the final, USA’s infielder Hannah Flippen pointed the growth of the sport across the world.

“I mean, everybody’s growing,” she began. “Every team is getting better every year. There’s no slouches. There are no weak teams anymore. Everybody’s super competitive and it makes the game fun. It makes the game competitive, which is what we want it to be.”

What’s the future for Chinese Taipei?

“After this medal,” Hsuan continued, “we shift our focus to the Asian Games, and of course we want to qualify for the Olympics. I feel like we can get it so for me, after this silver medal, we should be more confident to face foreign teams.”

For the bronze medal, Japan defeated Canada, 11-1. Canada finished fourth in the competition.

In the semifinals, delayed 90 minutes by rain, Chinese Taipei defeated Canada, 6-4, while USA outlasted Japan, 7-6 in a 10-inning thriller.

“That is a game for the record books,” Flippen marveled. “Every time we play Japan, it’s always back and forth. It’s always competitive. I think the mentality that Coach Gasso and the staff have implemented is blue collar and like gritty and grind it out. And that was what that game was all about.”

“I think that was probably one of the greatest softball games that I’ve been a part of to see so much fight and competition on the field,” added Faraimo.

“I think it shows why this is such a great sport, not just in our country or in their country, but globally. We fight hard and for that game to go for so long was really just a testament to both of our teams fight.”
