Event News: Unity-Johnson, Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass, Corona Angels-Tyson & Oklahoma Athletics National 2010-Madden Qualify for AFCS 14U Tier 1 Final Four (July 29, 2025)

AFCS is being held July 24-31 in Kokomo, IN (All rankings are Line Drive Hot 50 Club Nationals Rankings):

In 14U Tier 1 Elite 8:

#2 Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass 4, Athletics Mercado 2029-Christie/Zito 3: 2028 MIF Landry Mutscher drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 6th inning to give the Bombers the victory.

#2 Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass 8, #6 Corona Angels-Tyson 1: 2029 P Maci Barnes, #5 in the 2029 Line Drive Hot 100, allowed three hits and one run to record the win and 2028 MIF Michaela Landers, #4 in the 2028 Line Drive Hot 100, went 3 for 3 with two SBs and 2028 P/OF Maliyah Lewis homered to lead the Bombers into the Final Four.

“After dropping Game 1 in Supers and fighting all the way to (the) Final Four is a big deal for these athletes,” Bombers coach Kristi Malpass said.

Unity-Johnson 7, #44 Buzz Gold 0: 2028 P Miley McMullan pitched three scoreless, hitless innings with one strikeout and 2028 CF Jules Jackson, #9 in the 2028 Line Drive Hot 100, went 2 for 2 with two runs and two SBs and 2028 3B Tinley Goodson, #7 in the 2028 Line Drive Hot 100, went 2 for 2 with a run to lift Unity.

Unity-Johnson 6, #17 Oklahoma Athletics National 2010-Madden 0: 2028 LHP Mackenzie Herzog tossed a four-hitter with nine strikeouts in five innings, 2028 1B Sophie Strugar had two RBIs and 2028 CF Jules Jackson, #9 in the 2028 Line Drive Hot 100, went 2 for 3 with two runs to lead Unity into the Final Four.

“(I’m) super proud of the entire team from offense to pitching and everything in between,” Unity coach Josh Johnson said.

#6 Corona Angels-Tyson 13, #41 Impact Gold NTX National-Moeller 6: 2028 3B/1B Taelyn Ochoa went 3 for 4 with a run and two RBIs as the Corona Angels scored three runs in the top of the 6th inning, four runs in the top of the 7th inning and held on to beat Impact Gold in the loser’s bracket to earn a spot in the Final Four.

“The 14U Tyson group continues to grow with each round,” Angels coach Marty Tyson said. “(2028 RHP) Kaitlyn Grotenhuis is putting the team on her back, pitching 14 Innings today. (2028 C/1B) Milena Medyn is on fire, carrying the offense. Key Cogs have been (2029 2B/OF) Kylie Byrd, leadoff and (2028 SS/3B Teuuania) Sanchez.”

#17 Oklahoma Athletics National 2010-Madden 2, Louisiana Bombers Gold 2010-Nobles 1: 2028 CF/UT Madelyn Card tripled and scored on 2029 SS/UT Elle Walker’s single in the top of the 7th inning as the Athletics beat the Bombers in a loser’s bracket game to qualify for the Final Four.
