Event News: Texas Express Premier-Hope Edges Corona Angels-Tyson in AFCS Regionals (July 30, 2024)

The Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series (AFCS) is being held all week in Chino Hills, CA (All rankings are Line Drive Hot 50 Club National Rankings):

In 14U Regionals:

2027 SS Lili Rodriguez delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the 6th inning to give Texas Express Premier-Hope the lead and they held on for a 7-6 upset over #6 Corona Angels-Tyson in a Regional final.

2028 Rylea Dent went 3 for 3 with an RBI and 2027 CF Paiton Winkler went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Texas Express.

“This was a great win for Texas Express!” Texas Express coach Lloyd Hope said. “Corona Angels-Tyson is one of the most exceptional teams in the country. It was a total team effort! When we came out hitting, I knew it was going to be a game. The bats were hot, the defense was solid and the pitching was on point. These girls never give up! They always fight to the end, no matter what the score!” …

Athletics Mercado 09-Zito almost let a 7-1 lead slip away in the bottom of the 7th inning, but held on for a 7-6 upset over #11 OC Batbusters-Stith/Garcia in a Regional final.

2027 1B Kyleigh Whatley went 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs, 2027 SS Callia Carreon went 2 for 4 with a run and 2027 3B Lan Tagudin went 2 for 4 with a run and two RBIs for Athletics Mercado-Zito, formerly with the Texas Blaze organization.

“That one just personified who we are,” Athletics Mercado coach Jason Marazzito aid. “Gritty performance. Battled through adversity, picked each other up and never let the moment become too big. (2028 P) Maliyah Lewis showed why, in my opinion, she’s one of the top 2028 pitchers in the country. She was dominant in the circle for six innings. Offensively, team effort, did all the little things well and really took advantage of every extra bag on the bases.” …

2027 C/3B Lively Hanawalt went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and 2027 C/UT Caroline Wendlinger went 2 for 3 with a run to lead #43 Iowa Premier National-Paz to a 4-3 win over #26 OC Batbusters 09-AG. …

2028 3B Brooke Edvold went 2 for 2 with a run and three RBIs, 2027 C Isabelle Lawrence went 3 for 3 with a run and an RBI, 2028 1B Khloe Williams went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and 2027 CF Kayla Barras went 2 for 2 with a run and an RBI as #3 Impact Gold 2K9 National defeated #45 Bombers Gold Futures-Malpass, 9-4. …

2028 Ary Muro came through with a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning to drive in the winning run as Corona Angels-FTS beat ai Bandits-Breer, 2-1, in a Regional final. …
