In March, when we did our first SUPER 70 High School Team Rankings for the 2026 season, South Warren High of Bowling Green, Ky. was No. 41.
Today, 44 games later—all victories—the Lady Spartans are No. 1 in the country and play tonight in the state championship game after a 10-0 five inning run-rule victory over a very good Highlands High team Friday.
Saturday’s season finale may not be so easy, however; Bullitt Spin High from Mt. Washington, Ky., which finished No. 2 in the state in most polls, is 32-4 and has an outstanding lefty pitcher in senior Mackenzie Mingus.

Mackenzie is 12-1 with a 1.10 ERA and has 127 K’s in 83 innings pitch and is also tearing it up with the bat as she has a .491 batting average with five home runs and 50 RBIs in 34 games.
Offensively, the lineup is loaded with powerful and explosive hitters that have a collective .435 batting average.
The game starts at 7 pm EST and can be seen on pay sites NFHS and PrepSpin.
What’s at stake?
With a win, South Warren not only wins its first state championship in softball, it will also finish as the 2026 Line Drive Media National Champion after not only beating the best in Kentucky but also state champions in Alabama and Florida.
So… no pressure!
Yes, there’s a lot on the table after a wonderful season of play across the nation… but isn’t that what makes sports so wonderful? Being able to control your own destiny?
And you know that Head Coach Kelly Reynolds and her outstanding players wouldn’t have it any other way!
