n February, we wrote about the South Warren (Bowling Green, Ky.) Spartans softball team in an article titled High School Team Spotlight: South Warren (Bowling Green, Ky.) High… 15 Years of Excellence & Looking for First State Title (Feb. 23, 2026).
When the updated Line Drive SUPER 70 National High School Softball Rankings are published Thursday morning, you’ll see that the South Warren High team lead by Head Coach Kelly Reynolds will be ranked No. 11 in the nation after compiling a 19-0 to this point.
That record includes a big 6-3 win Tuesday night against Pace High, ranked last week at No. 17 in the Line Drive SUPER 70.
Tonight, South Warren will face Tate (Cantonment, Fla.) High with a record of 8-10 on the Aggies’ home field and, assuming a Spartans’ win to run its record to 20-0, that will set up a battle of two undefeated powerhouses tomorrow.

The national high school game of the year so far in 2026 looks to be Thursday night when the undefeated Spartans will take on the No. 1 team in the SUPER 70, Orange Beach High from Orange Beach, Ala., on the campus of the Alabama juggernaut which has a stellar 27-0 record as of today.

So why is South Warren High traveling to Florida and Alabama this week to play some of the best prep teams in the nation?
“The Pensacola spring break trip and games there have been played since 2023,” Coach Reynolds said today, “and we do it annually to challenge our game.”
Here’s more on this much anticipated showdown:
*** Orange Beach (27-0) enters as a proven dynasty with five straight Alabama Class 4A state championships (2021–2025) and was selected as the 2024 National Champs and continues to be one of the very elite teams in the prep ranks.
*** South Warren (19-0) brings an unblemished record and rising national presence into the matchup and seeks to win its first Kentucky state title while showing its one of the foremost rising programs now and in the future
This is a true measuring-stick game — elite vs elite, undefeated vs undefeated — with national implications and postseason tone-setting potential.

At 19-0 overall, South Warren High continues to dominate in every phase of the game, combining explosive offense with elite pitching to separate itself as one of the most complete teams in the country.

The Spartans have combined elite production top-to-bottom with overpowering pitching, establishing themselves as a national contender.
The stats that really shows how dominating the Blue Grass State team has been is that it has scored 235 runs against just 14 allowed in the first 19 games–a 12.4-to-0.74 run differential!
As we noted in our February article, the team is led by five senior standouts who all signed with D1 schools in December:
Add to that strong corps of 2026 grads one of the top juniors in the nation, P/1B Courtney Norwood (committed to Kentucky and ranked No. 7 in the 2027 Line Drive HOT 100), and you can see why this prep powerhouse is one of the best in the country.
Here’s a look at how the loaded team from Bowling Green, Ky. has gotten it done on both sides of the ball:

*** At the top of the order, McLaine Hudson leads the offense hitting .790 with 49 hits, 51 runs, 39 RBI, 14 home runs, 13 doubles, and 17 steals.

*** Layla Ogden follows with a .533 batting average totaling 41 RBI and eight home runs.
*** Hadley Borders adds a .585 hitting mark with 31 hits, 37 runs scored and 23 RBI
*** Parker Willoughby continues to produce, hitting .481 with 26 hits, 38 RBIs, eight doubles and six home runs.
*** Fellow senior Kinleigh Russell is batting .446 on 25 hits with 22 RBIs and eight doubles.
*** The depth continues with Keegan Pruitt (soph. 2B/OF) at .429 with 24 highs and 23 RBIs.
*** Kaylee Wilson (sr. C/2B) contributes 14 hits and 17 runs.
*** Kalie Kuzma (8th grade, OF/2B) adds 12 hits and 5fiveRBI.
*** Rounding out the top nine, Courtney Norwood has 10 hits, 12 RBIs, and six doubles adding extra-base impact from the lower half of the lineup.

In the circle, the Spartans are anchored by two aces.
*** Courtney Norwood leads the staff at 11-0 with a 0.55 ERA, striking out 93 over 51.0 innings pitched and allowing just four earned runs.
*** Equally dominant, Layla Ogden is 8-0 with a 0.41 ERA totaling 51 Ks in 34 innings pitching while giving up only two earned runs on the season.
With elite hitting, depth across the lineup, and two dominant arms, South Warren has outperformed opponents in every phase—fueling a perfect 19-0 start and positioning itself among the nation’s best heading into its biggest match-ups of the season.
Still, no matter what happens at Orange Beach High in Thursday’s action, the South Warren High Spartans have shown they’re one of the elite high school powerhouses in the nation and a program to watch for years to come.
