High School: This Week’s Edition of the Line Drive SUPER 70 National High School Softball Rankings! (Mar. 26, 2026)

The players on the Melbourne (Fla) High team have. lot to smile about, having started the season 12-0 and jumping into the Top 5 of the Line Drive SUPER 70 National High School Softball Rankings. Photo: Melbourne High Softball.

Which teams are highest ranked in certain states are determined first when these national rankings are finalized for each installment, and that can explain why some teams get a big bump and others don’t.

Movement in the “Sunshine State”

For this week’s Line Drive Softball Super 70, Melbourne of Florida has gone from No. 13 to No. 4, Fullerton of California has gone from No. 16 to No. 7 and Queen Creek of Arizona has gone from No. 31 to No. 8.

Pitcher Ding Balavender of Melbourne (Fla.) High

The top two teams from our first rankings, Orange Beach of Alabama and Murrieta Mesa of California, added wins over the last two weeks and therefore stayed in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.

Melbourne won four times since the previous rankings to stay unbeaten in Florida (including a win vs state-ranked Lake Brantley).

Other top Florida teams are playing each other more, but previous Super 70 No. 3 Doral Academy had a loss to American Heritage while previous No. 8 Parrish Community had a loss to Doral Academy.

Melbourne had a recent week in which pitcher Ding Balavender threw 14 shutout innings in three wins with 17 strikeouts.

Big Names Out West Getting It Done

Emma Reynolds of Queen Creek (Ariz.) High.

Fullerton got a three-spot bump in this week’s California rankings according to CalHiSports.com and then got one of nine spots for the Super 70.

The Indians, who have a win over powerhouse Norco, recorded a win over the last two weeks over a Los Altos of Hacienda Heights squad that handed previous Super 70 No. 5 JSerra its second loss of the season.

Malaya Majam-Finch, the niece of softball legend Jennie Finch, has gone 4-1 in the circle for Fullerton with a 1.96 ERA.

In Arizona, meanwhile, Queen Creek had to take over the top spot in the state after it pushed its record to 15-0 and got wins over both Basha of Glendale and Xavier Prep of Phoenix, two teams that previously were both in the top 25 of the Super 70.

Arizona’s Desert Mountain, which was No. 9 in the last national rankings, also suffered its first loss of the season to Boulder Creek. Queen Creek’s wins over Basha and Xavier were last week by scores of 3-2 and 8-1.

Oklahoma committed junior Emma Reynolds is having a huge season for the Bulldogs. She is leading them with 29 hits, 33 runs, 16 doubles and a .617 batting average.

The next edition of the Super 70 will be in two weeks on April 8 and will go to a weekly schedule for the rest of April and into May.
