Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? My older sister (Sophia Ramuno), who is now a pitcher for the University of Washington, played for Power Surge nearly her entire travel ball career. My father also coaches in Power Surge and has for the last eight years.

Tell us about your experience at PGF/Alliance Nationals? I’ve been playing travel for a really long time and each year I’ve been playing PGF. I think we are doing Alliance this year and I’m kind of happy about that since my high school would start the next day after PGF ends. The highest place I have ever gotten was during second year 10U on Coach Scott Berndes 10U Power Surge team. We really battled, but we lost to a great team, Hustle (Nation). Last year, we actually did pretty well and we were in the top 10!

What makes players from the state of California special? Players from California are special for a lot of reasons. There are so many opportunities for players in California and in order for you to stand out, you really have to put in the work. There are many different levels and there is great competition. There are a lot of different activities people could be doing in California, but choosing to do a sport like softball and sticking with it takes a lot of dedication and that is really what makes players from California stand out.

What was your highlight of the fall? What have you been focusing on this offseason? This fall, I joined a new team, Power Surge-Walling/Olivas, which later became Power Surge-Walling National with several of my former teammates. Since a lot of my former team went to play in LA, starting a new team was pretty difficult and we had a rough fall. I got to work on my slapping and (I) am really happy with how it is going. I have been focusing, with the help of my coaches and the extra work I have put in, on becoming a triple-threat at the plate. Compared to last year, I think I’m doing a lot better!

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? The toughest opponent my team has faced is Athletics Mercado-Romero. They have always baffled our hitters, including me, and they are a really good hitting team. They have won many tournaments and if they don’t win, then they are usually playing late on Sunday. I have battled them for many years going back to 10U where we would win 50 percent of the time. I haven’t beaten them in bracket play in several years now.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? I used to really struggle with softball, especially hitting. Then my Dad, who is also a very experienced coach, opened up a hitting facility and I joined a more competitive team. I realized I was not good enough to be on the team unless I improved and I worked really hard to get better. As in every day of week, I was at softball and hitting at the facility. Every day of that summer I was hitting. As my skills improved, so did my playing time and confidence. Without that time period where I struggled and without my hard work, I would not be who I am today, both mentally and physically. My work ethic is now much better. I have softball nearly every day of the week. Mondays are either catching lessons or hitting, Tuesday is team practice, Wednesday practice at the facility and a workout after, Thursday a hitting lesson at the facility and defensive practice and Friday is team practice. The weekends are filled with practice or friendlies or a tournament. I really needed to figure out if I loved the sport and once I realized, “Wow, I can do this,” it became really fun and I enjoy working hard and I like seeing improvements. I want to become the best I can be.

Do you have any family members/siblings that are athletes? Sophia Ramuno, older sister, plays for the University of Washington. She is one of their starting pitchers, and she is really good! I love watching her play and I try to be her biggest supporter. She is the one who inspired me to play softball! Kelly Outwater and Carrie Fenton, aunts, played softball their entire lives and one of them went D1! Morgan Outwater, cousin, also played travel softball throughout high school. Scott Ramuno, father, used to play baseball and men’s softball! I remember going to some of his games as a child and thinking, when I’m older, I want to play just like dad.

What are you looking for in a future college? I really want to go to a school that has a good softball program. I want a good education, but I also know there are only four years of eligibility to play and I want to take advantage of those years. I want to leave behind a lasting mark on the school that I go to. I want to play Division 1 at a school that has a good science program. I really hope my hard work pays off!

What college camps have you attended and are you planning to attend and why? I have gone to A LOT of college camps for my age. I have been the youngest player at them several times. I have attended camps at Cal State Fullerton, Washington, UCSB, UCSD as well as eight other camps that had multiple D1 schools present. In all, I’ve probably played in front of 75 different colleges. I like going to these camps to see how the recruiting process works and what it will be like for me in the future. I also want to give these coaches a good impression at a young age so the next time they see me they will recognize and take note of me. I want to be known and remembered!

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I am really interested in sciences like microbiology. But after college, I want to go into the military for my country and then I plan to continue on and become a microbiologist. I enjoy studying this field of science in school.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? I really like science because I like learning about the world and how it works naturally. If my plan to become a microbiologist happens, then this is definitely an important subject for me!

Who is your sports hero and why? My sports hero is (MLB legend) Derek Jeter because he was not always a great baseball player. But through hard work and the people who believed in him, who saw his potential and supported him, he has ended up to be one of the best baseball players in history. He was also a multi-sport athlete. I hope to become a great softball player, like Derek Jeter is to baseball, and leave a lasting impact on sports history, while having a rough start.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? I love the book “One Of Us Is Lying” (by Karen M McManus) because I like a good murder mystery. The plot twist at the end was so unexpected! This was a book I could not put down!

What’s the best hype song and why? I love the song “Tore Up” by Don Toliver. This is a song on all of my workout and pre-game playlists. It gets me hyped up for games and I love the energy it brings.

What’s your favorite TV show to b,inge and why? “9-1-1” because I can watch this show for hours and hours. There are a ton of episodes and they are all about the same characters and each episode brings a new challenge for the very personable characters.

What’s your favorite movie and why? I love the movie “The Bourne Identity” because it is so action-packed. I love that the viewer is as clueless as the character and it is really entertaining. I like that it is part of a movie series and was based off a book series, which was really good. I haven’t finished the books, yet, because they are super long, but I’m working on it!

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I actually love to cook and I have recently learned I am very good at candy-making. I can make toffee, fudge, nut brittle and more and it is surprisingly really good!
