I have the privilege yesterday (Monday, Sept. 15) to spend the afternoon with Kevin Shelton, the head of the Texas Glory club program, and tour his extensive softball facility which is amazing.

In a later article, we’ll look at the complex more in detail.

I shot a series of videos with Kevin, covering topics such as what he thinks of the state of softball today, some of the memorable Glory players he’s coached over the last quarter century and also more background on the newly announced North Texas Alliance Fastpitch Futures League being launched soon specifically for the development of 6U & 8U softball players.

In this first video in the series, Kevin talks about his background prior to getting fastpitch softball close to 30 years ago.

Among his impressive accomplishments he has:

• built the Texas Glory from the ground up to have 100 or so teams in 15 states
• won a national championship and 13 other national tournaments as a coach
• worked with nearly 1,200 college players including five U.S. National Team Members
• earned the NFCA National Travel Ball Coaching Staff of the Year (2014, 2024)
• been named to the USA Softball North Texas Hall of Fame
• led the TFL as Commissioner
• been the General Manager for the Dallas Charge of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) for the 2015 and 2016 seasons
• graduated with a BS in Nuclear Engineering from Texas A&M and an MA in Computer Information and Resource Management
• served as a U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine Officer for more than eight years
• worked at prestigious national firms such as Proctor & Gamble & Frito-Lay/Pepsico
• been married for close to 40 years with six children and 11 grandkids
