Club Team Spotlight: Mojo 18U - Bruce Lewis… “Developing Players to Achieve Next Level Success, In College & In Life Beyond Softball” (Oct. 16, 2024)

If you’ve been around club softball for any amount of time, you’ve heard of the success of the Mojo program which now has travel teams in states from the East Coast to the West Coast.

Originally called the “Tennessee Mojo,” the program has outgrown the single state name and instead focuses on the Mojo brand name which carries weight at every age division.

This Fall’s schedule of tourneys for the Mojo – Bruce Lewis 18U team.

One current Mojo 18U squad is headed by Bruce Lewis—the team used to be called “Mojo – Nelson” but when the Nelson family wanted their talented daughter Landri to experience playing outside of their family’s supervision (she currently competes for Carolina Elite Fusseti and is committed to North Carolina Greensboro)—Coach Lewis put his name on the team which he has coached for over eight years.

The team is strong with seniors and juniors and last month had several players – including outfielders Ronnie Wade and Ava Angel along with catcher Bailey Poschke – rank high in the 2026 Line Drive HOT 100 (Wade at No. 16, Angel at No. 18 and Poschke at No. 28).

The team’s assistant coach, Jason Wade, has himself been a head coach in the Mojo organization, having led the Mojo Wade 2025/2026 team, and has had great success in his career including winning two USA National Championships and the 2022 Alliance Network Tier 1 Championship.

Earlier this Summer, we did a spotlight on his then Mojo – Wade team and learned that Wade had a strong volleyball background before switching to softball to help his daughters progress.

I decided to join Bruce to help with coaching, player development, and recruiting,” he recalls and, together, the two leaders have helped this Mojo team make some noise.

Line Drive Softball recently caught up with Coach Wade to learn more about the team and its goals… here’s what he had to say:

*****

LINE DRIVE SOFTBALL: Tell us about this Mojo – Bruce Lewis team and how it came to be…
COACH JASON WADE: The team started in 2016 as Hotshots.  In 2020, we combined with the Frost Falcons to make the Mojo – Nelson team and in 2024 we assumed the name of the head coach (Bruce Lewis) who has coached the team since the beginning.

LD SOFTBALL: Where are you based?
JW: The team is based in Cleveland, Tenn. which is the same state the organization was created in.

LD SOFTBALL: What was the purpose of creating the team? Was it to showcase players, win titles, develop skills, or something else?
JW: The team was created to develop athletes and, as a biproduct, the team has won many tournaments and garnered a lot of attention.

We have brought in additional talent as players have moved to find different needs or fits and continued to elevate the level of talent and play.  We now represent several states including Ohio, Tenn., Georgia, Florida, West Virginia, Kentucky, New Jersey, Indiana, Alabama and Michigan.

The key is bringing in players and parents with the same mindset and needs.

LD SOFTBALL: What do you think are the strengths of the team?
JW: The strength of the team has always been its offense.  The defense has allowed us to stay in the hunt and find a way to win games.

LD SOFTBALL: What is your coaching staff’s primary focus or goal with this group of players?
JW: Our primary goal is to develop the players and put them in a position to achieve next-level success using softball as a tool to gain academic advantages in college and life beyond softball.

Ava Angel, a Top-20 ranked player in the 2026 class, is committed to Minnesota.

LD SOFTBALL: What have been some of your successes in terms of winning or placing at events this past year?
JW: The team won the Eastern Elite tournament to qualify for the Alliance Network Championships, finished 3rd at T25 and also won power pools in the P5 and at the Colorado Sparkler.

LD SOFTBALL: What’s your softball background and how did you get to the point of leading the team?
JW: Bruce began coaching his daughter then took a break from the game after she graduated.  Later, friends had daughters playing the game and I was asked to help again and have been coaching ever since.

Myself, I started coaching with the Mojo – Lunsford team which was a three-time national champion and then transitioned to running Mojo – Wade for a couple of years and have since then joined the Mojo – Bruce Lewis team to help develop players.

LD SOFTBALL: What makes the Mojo organization unique, in your opinion?
JW: This organization is player first and, with that philosophy, it has collected over a dozen national championships and the tournament wins continue to stack up.  The Mojo program continues to grow and, with additional help brought on this season in the form of an Operational Director, we will continue our strategic growth.

LD SOFTBALL: How many teams are there in the organization overall?
JW: With the addition of the West Coast teams this season, we will have over 50 total teams.

LD SOFTBALL: If there is one thing you would say that separates you from other club programs, what would it be?
JW: Our leadership within each team really steps it up to help players in all aspects from recruiting, to development, to relationship building.  We are working to build better.

LD SOFTBALL: Do you have any players committed at this point?
JW: We have four players currently committed:

  • Sydney Gurley (2025) Wallace State
  • Soseh Broglin (2025) University of Dayton
  • Mia Fleming (2025) Miami University
  • Ava Angel (2026) University of Minnesota

Additionally, we had 2025 Hannah Potts who is committed to Western Michigan and decided to play locally versus traveling for the Fall, and Landri Nelson, who I mentioned earlier and is playing on a new team right now to get a different perspective.

The rest are 2026 players with one 2027.

LD SOFTBALL: Anything else interesting or fun that portrays your team as a top organization?
JW: We don’t have to sell our ability; it has been shown on the field.  When you see us in your bracket, it is never a good feeling because you know you are in for a fight!

LD SOFTBALL: Where can we find your team on social media?
JW: Our Twitter account can be found at @TNMojo07 and our Facebook page is TN Mojo Bruce Lewis 18U.
