Recruiting: 70 More Verbals to Our Master Commit Spreadsheet Including Ones for Cal, Rutgers, Liberty, Marshall & Nevada; Also, Our First 2029 Commit! (Oct. 14, 2029)

Cal picked up two excellent commits this week in pitcher Rylee Silva (left) and infielder Marcela Attar.

Since starting our 2026-2027 edition of the Master Commit Spreadsheet on Sept. 1, we are approaching 1,100 commits in the six weeks since then.

Of those:

  • 525 are for the current junior class (2028’s)
  • 501 are seniors (2027’s)

These seniors included since Sept. 1 are in addition to the 2027’s who committed previously—would you believe the nearly 2,000 listed in LAST year’s Master Commit Spreadsheet?

And now would you believe we have our first 2029 commit?

Our First Class of 2029 Commit

That’s right, we have our first current sophomore who’s committed and that is (drum roll)…

Marissa Santori, a catcher who plays with the Wisconsin Stingrays and has verballed to Crown College, a Div. III school in Saint Bonifacius, Minnesota, just west of Minneapolis.

A member of the Upper Midwest Atlantic Conference, the Polars (a great nickname for a school in Minnesota, don’t you think?) went 21-18 this year, but only 5-13 in conference.

Also, it should be noted that while DIII programs don’t award athletic scholarships, student athletes: “can still receive financial help through academic merit scholarships, need-based grants, institutional funds, federal and state aid, and outside scholarships,” according to an article on the school’s website when discussing this pertaining to track & field.

Here’s the X.com post from last Thursday when Marissa made her commit public:

Doubling Up

Our last update before this was last Sunday, so it’s just been three full days since then, but several college programs got at least two commits in that time including:

  • Baker (2, NAIA)
  • Cal (2, Div. I)
  • Dickinson College (3, Div. III)
  • Huston – Tillotson (2, NAIA)
  • Marshall (2, Div. I)
  • Nevada (2, Div. I)
  • Taylor (2, NAIA)

One of the Cal 2028 commits is especially noteworthy.

Pitcher Rylee Silva, who plays for the Wildcats – Holcomb/Knight team, was ranked No. 4 in the Line Drive Media 2028 HOT 100 which was released last month.

Here’s how her bio read:

T-4—Rylee Silva, P, Wildcats 16U – Holcomb/Knight
Playing in one of the strongest hotbeds of softball in the country, Orange County, Calif., Rylee has separated herself as an elite two-way player who competes at the highest level throughout the whole year in both high school and travel ball. Her Orange Lutheran High team led by Steve Miklos has won two CIF Southern Section titles and, more recently, has captured seven straight Trinity League championships; impressive as it’s one of the most competitive leagues in not just the state, but the nation. Rylee earned 1st Team All-County and All-CIF Southern Section Div. 1 honors after recording a 1.13 ERA with 111 K’s in 105.2 innings and a .457 batting average. For her two-year perp career, Rylee has a .183 BAA and is strong on defense with a .975 fielding percentage.  And effective and overpowering pitcher who is a three-sport athlete, she also competes in basketball and flag football.

Rylee should be an impact player immediate for the Bears in the ACC when she steps on campus.

Commit Spotlight

We have a great spotlight today on a commit from last Saturday in the 2028 class—Gracie Martinez, a middle infielder and utility player from Davis, Calif. who plays with the Lady Magic 16U – Muñoz team and has committed to the University of Nevada.

Gracie has emerged as one of the top middle infield prospects in the Class of 2028, combining advanced defensive instincts, offensive consistency, elite competitiveness, and exceptional character.

A two-year varsity starter at Davis Senior High School, she competes in California’s renowned Sierra Foothill League and faces elite competition every game.

Defensively, Gracie is an instinctive middle infielder whose athleticism and softball IQ separate her from her peers.

She possesses exceptional first-step quickness, smooth footwork, soft hands, and the ability to anticipate plays before they develop. Her range allows her to make difficult plays look routine, and her composure under pressure gives coaches confidence with the ball in her hands in critical situations.

Offensively, Gracie is is a dynamic table-setter who consistently impacts games from the top of the lineup. She combines quick hands, excellent barrel control, disciplined pitch selection, and gap-to-gap power to produce quality at-bats against elite pitching.

Her speed creates pressure on opposing defenses, and she has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to deliver in high-leverage moments against premier competition.

Nationally, the 2028 standout competes for Lady Magic Muñoz 16U, one of the premier organizations in the country, playing a nationally competitive PGF schedule against many of the nation’s top prospects.

Some of her honors include:

  • Ranked as one of the Top 100 player in Class of 2028 by Line Drive Media
  • First Team All-Sierra Foothill League (2026)
  • Davis Senior High School Offensive Player of the Year (2026)
  • Sac-Joaquin Section Second Team All-Section (2026)
  • Sacramento Bee All-Metro Second Team (2026)
  • OnDeck Softball Jamboree Colorado Invitee (2026)

Here’s her excellently written recap on how the recruiting journey went for her and what advice she would extend to younger players following in her footsteps…

—

Gracie committed last Saturday, but has long been a fan of Nevada.

My recruiting journey with the University of Nevada, Reno started back in 2024 at the Bombers Invitational in Texas.

I was a 2028 athlete playing up on a 2027 team, competing on the national stage. We were playing the Bombers when the Nevada coaches came to watch my team compete.

Over the next couple of years, I explored different schools, attended camps, and consistently sent emails and videos to so many coaches.

Knowing they couldn’t respond to me yet because of the recruiting rules, I just kept putting in the work, focusing on getting better every day and trusting that my hard work would eventually open doors.

I’ve been so fortunate to have Lady Magic coaches and trainers who believe in my potential, challenge me, and give me honest feedback about what I need to improve. I just kept working hard and whenever I stepped on the field I played with my heart.

Last fall, I started receiving mail from Nevada, and this past summer, I was invited to attend their camp.

I absolutely loved it!

What stood out most was the coaches’ energy, attention to detail, and genuine love for the game. It was clear this wasn’t just a camp to check a box like others I had been to—the Nevada coaches were truly invested in teaching and developing players.

They were leaders with collegiate, professional, and Olympic experience and I knew these were coaches I could learn so much from.

The Nevada coaches continued showing up at my tournaments throughout the summer and I kept sending them emails and videos.  When September 1st arrived, they called me!

From that first conversation, they made it clear how much they valued the player I am today and believed in my potential. I never had to question where I stood with them because they told me, and that meant so much to me.

Something else I loved was hearing the coaches say they recruit girls who are passionate about the game as much as they are. That’s exactly how I feel about softball!

I love competing, working hard, and getting better, and I want to be surrounded by teammates and coaches who share that same excitement for the game. I know I play my best when I’m having fun and feeling the joy of being out on the field.

The 2028 standout on her official campus visit to the University of Nevada.

Hearing the Nevada coaches say they could see that joy in the way I play was so rewarding because it meant they saw something in me that I really value about myself as a player.

One of the hardest parts of recruiting was putting my blinders on after September 1st.

Seeing other players in my class committing made it hard not to compare timelines, but I reminded myself to trust my own process. I continued visiting schools and building relationships with coaches across multiple divisions because I wanted to make the right decision.

I also learned about the “Broken Leg Test” from my recruiting coordinator: If you could never play softball again, would you still want to attend that school?

When I went on my Nevada visit and spent the entire day with Coach Vic, Coach Jill, Coach Carli, and Coach Sara, I knew my answer was yes.

They showed me everything the campus had to offer. I loved the campus, the student-athlete resources, the details about the Mountain West Conference, and that I will be relatively close to home.

Most importantly, I could see myself thriving there. By the end of the two-day visit, I knew I didn’t need to go anywhere else—I had found my place!

The best advice I received in this process was” “Go where you are wanted.” Nevada made me feel that way every step of the way.

My advice to younger athletes is to keep working, keep putting yourself out there, and don’t let someone else’s timeline become yours. The right opportunity will come, but you can’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and put in the work!

It takes sacrifices, dedication, and a lot of hard work.

Recruiting is mentally challenging, and there will be moments when doubt starts to creep in. But in those moments, remind yourself why you started. Trust your journey, surround yourself with people who believe in you, and never lose the joy of playing the game you love.

Most importantly, keep playing for that 5-year-old little girl who just wanted to play softball; she had no idea how far her dreams could take her.

I’m so grateful for my family, coaches, trainers, and teammates who helped me get here.

Committing to Nevada on October 10th was a dream come true, and I can’t wait to be part of the Wolf Pack!

BATTLE BORN!
