All this week, we are running a series of “What I’m Thankful For” articles from those in the softball community.
Today, we hear from infielder Mariah Walker, who was ranked in September at No. 26 in the 2026 Line HOT 100 Player Rankings.
As noted in her bio:
“Mariah is a true triple threat playmaker and known in the softball circuit as one of the toughest outs in the game. The 5-tool athlete is dangerous at the plate with her arsenal of bunting, power slapping, and hitting with gap-to-gap power that come natural for her.”
From Douglasville, Ga., the talented junior had a lot of interest from college coaches starting Sept. 1 and also has nearly 1,300 followers on her X (Twitter) account.
Here are her thoughts about four key things for she’s appreciative of this time of year…
*****
For the past six years, softball has been more than just a sport to me—it’s been a blessing from God.
I believe it’s by His grace that I’ve been able to stay motivated, find strength, and have everything I need to play this game that I love.
My faith fuels me to work hard, train hard, and give my best effort every day. My goal is to get 1% better every single day, and that dedication has been key to my growth on and off the field.
Softball has been the pathway God used to lead me to opportunities I could have never imagined including my offer from Gardner-Webb University. I know that every step of my journey—every game, every practice, every moment—has been guided by His will.
Without God, none of this would be possible.

One of the things I cherish most about softball is my team.
My teammates are more than just players on the field; they’re like family. We share close bonds, and being around such fun, uplifting girls makes every game and practice an enjoyable experience.
The joy we share helps keep us motivated and grounded, reminding us why we play the game. We hold each other accountable, which is crucial, but we also prioritize having fun because that’s what keeps us going as a team.

I also want to take a moment to thank my Dad. He’s always been my biggest supporter, not just in softball but in my faith. He’s pushed me to grow closer to God, and that has shaped me not only as an athlete but as a person.
*****
Finally, I want to thank all my coaches who have poured their time and knowledge into me over the years. Their guidance, encouragement, and tough love have driven me to be the best version of myself. They’ve not only helped me improve my game but also reminded me to stay grounded in my values and faith.
Softball isn’t just a game to me—it’s a testament to God’s grace, a source of joy, and a constant reminder of the blessings that come from hard work, faith, and the support of those around me.
