Texas Glory Head Coach and org head Kevin Shelton was a busy man on Friday, leading his 18U team to a 1-1 record at the 2024 Clearwater Fall Classic with a 1-0 loss to the Louisville Lady Sluggers and an 8-6 victory over Georgia Impact Premier.
While watching a Texas Glory 16U game earlier in the day, I had a chance to sit and talk with Coach Kevin and he was so interesting, I asked if I could get his thoughts in a video interview and he kindly said “yes.”
In his over 20 years of coach, he’s won more than his share of championships and admits to have an approach many would found interesting when it comes to who will play in the title games.
And Shelton has an insightful approach on how important winning games are in top tournaments like this weekend’s…
“In my 25 years,” he explains, “no college coach has ever asked me if we won a game or not.”
“It’s not really relevant to what they’re doing and it’s not specifically relevant to what we’re doing–what we’re trying to do is develop humans and we do that one pitch a time.”
“If we do that well and correctly, we’ll win the games.”
