Touching Video Interview: Coach Coty Meadows Gets Emotional After His Unity Team Won PGF 18U Platinum Nationals, Knowing It Was His Last Time Coaching Daughter Makenna (August 5, 2025)

In Week 1 of this year’s PGF Nationals, Head Coach Coty Meadows helped lead his Unity – Meadows/Johnson team to the championship of the 18U Platinum Division.

The title game was a thriller, as Unity trailed by four runs not once but twice, yet was able to come back and beat Athletics Mercado – Sabo 8-6.

It was a special win for Coach Meadows in another more personal way: it was the last time he would ever coach his talent pitching daughter, Makenna as she is a 2025 grad headed to St. John’s this Fall…

this after he’s coached her in every sport she’s played since she was 6-years-old!

At the plate, Makenna went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and also pitched 1.1 innings giving up one earned run with a walk and two strikeouts.

Coach Meadows admitted after the championship win that he and Makenna were so busy over the summer with club play that they didn’t really stop to realize this would be the last time he would coach his daughter until shortly before the championship game… and it put a lump in his throat and a tear in his eye.

It’s a situation many a coach has faced: the last time the coaching parent would be in the same dugout and on the same field of play with his or her child.

Watch our interview with Coach Meadows and also Makenna about their coming out with a national championship as well their facing the future with Dad in the stands and Daughter on the field…
