Mankato, Minnesota hit a high of 49 degrees on Saturday—far from the 78 degrees Head Coach Lori Meyer and her Mavericks of Minnesota State-Mankato played in today at THE Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.

It was still much better than the weather the Div. II team faced this week at home in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, when winds were up to 30 mph and parts of the state had more than a foot of snow mid-week—the biggest major winter storm of the season.

After the Mavericks suffered five losses—all by one run—in the six games played last week at the Midwest College Classic in Shawnee, Kan., Minnesota State – Mankato was looking to turn it around Saturday and the D2 school got off to a good start, winning the first two of the 10 games they’ll play through Thursday at THE Spring Games.

Just getting to the Sunshine State, however, was a major challenge as Coach Meyer—who has coached 40 years at Minnesota State – , won over 1,400 games and captured a Div.
