When we say Lucy George, the Class of 2027 standout pitcher from Kokomo, Ind. has serious skills, we ain’t just limiting it to what she can do between the lines on the softball field.
Don’t get us wrong—what she can do in a uniform is pretty amazing—as the 6-foot-1 incoming junior is one of the elite pitchers in her class and will get heavy recruiting interest from Power 5 programs starting on Sept. 1.
In uniform, Lucy has what club coach Scott Norwood of the Lady Louisville Sluggers 18U – Huecker/Norwood team describes as “elite spin on the ball.”
He continues:
“To me, her spin on the ball sets her apart from most in her class.”
For the Western Panthers out of Russiaville, Ind. earlier this year, Lucy put up video game-like numbers in the circle, with 162 K’s in 84 innings pitched, a batting average against of .178, a 2.08 ERA and a WHIP of .901.
Over the summer, she again had stellar marks with 119 K’s in 96.1 innings pitched with a 2.25 ERA and a WHIP of .976.
But someday if she chooses not to stay in the world of softball, Lucy has some other gifts that could help her be equally as popular to those around her.
“Lucy is an amazing baker,” Coach Scott explains. “She enjoys pottery as well and is just an extremely talented young lady.”
He recalls a story last Fall when the team’s players and coaches got to benefit from her culinary talents big-time.
“Lucy’s birthday is on Halloween and she was kind enough to bake cupcakes for us at Scenic City and all the girls loved them! Her strawberry cupcakes are the best I have ever had!”
The multi-talented athlete says she loves to bake and would like to open her own bakery store one day.
We caught up with Lucy recently to learn about her forays into baking and pottery as well as softball… here are her insights and, best of all… BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE AMAZING EVIDENCE OF HER WORK THE END OF THIS ARTICLE!!!!!

Line Drive Media: When did you realize you had these talents in addition to softball?
Lucy George: I have always been a creative person. Growing up I used to invent useful things around the house, and I liked spending my time creating things. I just started baking as a hobby and I liked coming up with fun cupcake ideas. With pottery, I took a class at school my freshman year and really enjoyed being creative in a different way.
LDM: How do you find time to do these things along with your softball practices, workouts, travel, etc.?
LG: With my busy softball and travel schedule is it difficult sometimes to find time but I squeeze it in whenever I can. On several occasions I have made cupcakes before a game and frosted them when I get home. I have a small bakery business, and I have to make time for orders based on the customers occasions. I have a pottery wheel in my dining room and I use it whenever I find spare time.
LDM: Where do your artistic skills come from?
LG: My artistic skills definitely come from my family. My great grandmother had a pottery wheel in her kitchen. I keep a pot that she made next to my wheel to remember her by. My sister is also very artistic, but she mostly works with paints and watercolor while I like more 3D artwork.
LDM: Any thought of doing either—baking or pottery—as a career someday?
LG: I have been considering pursuing a career in culinary arts and look for those degrees at the college level. I have dreamed of opening a bakery in the future. I feel like pottery is more of a hobby, but I have looked at some college programs for ceramics.
LDM: Which is more enjoyable for you to do?
LG: I think right now, pottery is more enjoyable. It is very relaxing and is something I like to do when I want to destress.
LDM: Regarding your cupcakes… what do you do so well to make them so delicious?
LG: When I am making cupcakes, I like to make fun and tasty flavors. My most popular are my pina colada flavored cupcakes, I add pineapple and a cherry on top for that little bit extra. I’ve also made blueberry pancake flavored ones with mini pancakes on top and maple bacon ones.
LDM: Finally, with your birthday on Halloween, does that inspire you to do some creative Halloween stuff, either baking or pottery?
LG: My birthday is on Halloween which is always such a fun time of year. I think I enjoy making fall themed items more than the spookier items. But I’m always open to new ideas and enjoy making people happy when I make my cupcakes.
