Off the Field: Senior High School All-American Alivia Artanis Has Another Passion… Line Dancing! (July 11, 2025)

Earlier this week, Line Drive posted our 1st Team High School All-Americans list for Infielders and one of those was Alivia Artanis, a senior from the Sunshine State… here’s her bio:

Alivia on the softball field

Alivia Artanis (Sr., West Broward, Pembroke Pines Fla.)
Alivia is a triple threat with the bat and is a converted lefty who can slap, bunt and hit at a high level. Wrapping up her prep career, the infielder who can also play the outfield hit .469 this year with a .557 on-base percentage and a 1.135 OPS. For her career, Alivia batted .424 and totaled 70 RBIs and 97 runs scored. Her other honors included being named 1st Team All-County by the Broward County Sun Sentinel for all four years of her prep softball and also broke the 100 hits mark for her prep career making her the first to do it ever at her high school. Equally successful with the books, Alivia graduated with a 4.0 GPA. She will be attending Queens University of Charlotte in August to play D1 softball in the ASUN Conference.

The talented softball player explains:

“Softball is a defining passion in my life, but it’s just one piece of the many experiences that shape who I am.”

When not on the fields, she is skilled at another activity that speaks to her background of being a tried-and-true country girl.

“The country lifestyle has been around since the beginning of time,” Alivia explains.

“It symbolizes family, love, sunsets/ nature and America. My most favorite artists like Jason Alden, Chris Stapleton and Lainey Wilson emulate great, wholesome values through their lyrics which can positively influence people of all ages.”

She cites two examples.

“’Boot Scootin’ Boogie” by Brooks and Dunn might be the No. 1 country line dancing song on every DJ’s playlist as it is well-known for its upbeat rhyme and even beginners can pick up the choreography.”

“However,” the softball standout continues, “if you are ready to kick it up a notch and really get a full body workout, then join the dance floor for the “Fiddle” by Bomshel, which will leave you smiling while catching your breath!”

Bombshel’s “Fiddle” gives the line dancers a full workoiut, Alivia believes.

This growing “sport” has taken over YouTube and TikTok with step-by-step tutorials while spotlighting a variety of country line dancing venues. Alivia likes to travel to new locations to line dance and has been to venues within Florida like Berry Farms in Miami and Schnebly Redland’s Winery & Brewery in Homestead, Florida.

However, she continues, there’s one place where you can frequently find her on the weekends.

“My stomping grounds are Sunday nights at Round Up in Davie with my traditional group of friends to kick start a new week of school and practice.”

The athlete can point back to when and who started her love of line dancing. Alivia’s best friend, Ava Regoli, who will attend St. Thomas University in the fall to play softball, introduced her to country line dancing back in 2023 after she watched a few Tik Tok videos.

“We made plans to attend Renegades in West Palm Beach, Florida for a night of dancing and it was love at first sight.”

Now, the activity is as much of her life as batting practices and infield grounders.

“Line dancing is part of my weekly must haves,” Alivia agrees.

Her friend Ava believes:

“It truly is such a great time and the best workout. It brings people of all walks of life to one location to move as a unified unit to even the most modern-day songs.”

You don’t have to be a cowgirl to enjoy a good sweat, however.

Davian Cofino, who is a DJ in his free time and a freshman at Florida International University, is “excellent with his footwork and makes a great partner for those do-si-do-like moves around the perimeter of the dance floor,” the senior softball player adds.

The DJ says it’s also a way to do something with his siblings.

“Country line dancing is my therapy and allows me to be myself while goofing around with my friends.” says Davian. “

“It is also great quality time with my younger sister, Sophia, who has become a close friend of Alivia’s at our weekly get-togethers.”

Another friend, Shaun Shaprio, who is committed to play baseball at St. Thomas University in the fall, echoes what the others believe in how the activity brings people together.

“Country line dancing is a great way to hang out with your friends rather than sitting around at someone’s house,” he begins.

“It keeps us out of trouble and is a great way to meet new people.”

These line dancing venues bring large crowds of people together who all dance in close corners and very rarely are there contentions like you might find… well… on the softball or baseball fields.

“I have never seen a fight—not an argument—transpire,” Alivia says.

“It is a safe place with energized young adults, half drunk water bottles and an excited DJ who controls the tempo of the crowd.”

Some tools of the trade!

And, like in on-the-field sports, line dancing has its own dress code, so to speak.

“Cowboy boots are now considered a collector’s item and my boot wall is growing,” Alivia smiles.

“My first few pairs of boots were handed down to me from my great-aunt and my Grammy who both put in many hours of stomping, twisting and turning back in their day!”

The stick-and-ball sports, you might say, is what will provide Alivia and her friends the opportunity to get an education, but line dancing will be the activity that unites them in fun off the fields.

“One’s life needs balance…an outlet to clear the mind and to rejuvenate the soul,” Alivia concludes. “

Country line dancing does that for me. It makes me a better ball player as it is jam-packed with cardio that can last for hours at a time. It allows me to surround myself with a different group of people who share in my passion.”

“And it allows me to feel the music to my core and forgot about all of life’s struggles.”
