International News: U.S. Women’s National Team Improves to 2-0 at 2024 WBSC World Cup Finals With 7-0 Run-Rule Over Host Country Italy (July 17, 2024)

Team USA picked up its second win of the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup Finals on Tuesday with a 7-0 (five innings) run-rule over host country Italy.

Shining at the plate for the Eagles, Jessie Warren and Janae Jefferson each tabbed a 2-for-3 performance, with Warren leading the U.S. offense with a double, a home run, four RBI and two runs scored.

Megan Faraimo proved dominant in the circle for the U.S., fanning nine batters through five innings while only allowing two hits.

The Red, White and Blue got on the board early thanks to a lead-off walk to Haylie McCleney and a ground-out RBI from Amanda Lorenz that pushed across the first run of the game to put the Eagles ahead, 1-0.

Warren knocked a solo shot over the center field fence in the bottom of the second to widen the lead, 2-0, before a double from Hannah Flippen and a ground-out RBI from Jocelyn Alo tacked on another run in the bottom of the third.

The Italy defense managed to silence the U.S. offense through the fourth, but a pair of singles and a bases-loaded double from Warren extended the lead, 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth.

With the run-rule in effect, Maya Brady walked it off with a ground-out RBI to seal the 7-0 shutout victory in the fifth.

The Eagles play China today at 2 p.m. CET (7 a.m. CT) to close out Opening Round. The top four teams will advance to the Super Round (July 18-19) for a chance to compete in the Medal Round slated for July 20.
