International News: Team USA Posts 7-0 Run-Rule Over the Netherlands; Advances to Gold Medal Game with Undefeated 5-0 Record

Capping off the Super Round, the U.S. Women’s National Team (WNT) improved to 5-0 at the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup Finals after posting a 7-0 run-rule victory over the Netherlands on Friday in Castions Di Strada, Italy.

The U.S. will advance to the Gold medal matchup slated for Saturday at 8 p.m. CET (1 p.m. CT) against Japan with sights set on earning its fourth-consecutive WBSC World Cup title.

Team USA continued its dominance at the plate, combining for 10 hits on the day with eight U.S. batters posting at least one hit in the matchup – highlighted by multi-hit performances from Hannah Flippen (2-for-3) and Sis Bates (2-for-2).

The pitching staff of Ally Carda and Kelly Maxwell took care of business in the circle with a combined no-hitter and seven strikeouts.

The Eagles once again wasted no time getting things started in the bottom of the first thanks to a lead-off single from Bates paired with a two-run blast from Flippen that put the U.S. on top, 2-0.

Back-to-back singles from Maya Brady and Haylie McCleney and a sac-fly from Bates tacked on three more in the bottom of the second to extend the U.S. lead, 5-0. The Eagles closed out the bottom of the fifth with a single from Tiare Jennings and a walk-off double from Rachel Garcia to clinch the shutout win in the fifth via the run-rule.

Plenty to smile about for the Red, White & Blue which has seen the pitching throw four straight shutouts including a combined no-hitter. Photos courtesy of USA Softball.

The Red, White and Blue remains undefeated heading into the 2024 WBSC World Cup Finals gold medal contest with four-straight shutout victories – including Friday’s no-hitter.

The Eagles offense has proven to be superior through Opening and Super Round, compiling a .314 batting average and a combined 37 hits while outscoring its opponents 27-2.

Leading the U.S. through its undefeated performance is Flippen with a .500 batting average, followed by Maya Brady (.462) and Jessie Warren (.429).

The U.S. pitching staff of Carda, Megan Faraimo, Garcia and Maxwell dominated in the five wins — totaling 42 strikeouts and nine allowed hits while giving up only two earned runs.
