On Day 2 of our tournament, we faced Argentina and Guatemala. The day started early with our team up, grabbing some breakfast and leaving the hotel by 6:30 a.m., ready to (go) for our doubleheader.
In the first game against Argentina, my teammate Leona Eichholz took the mound as the starter, recording an impressive five strikeouts in just 1.2 innings. I entered the game in relief and added three strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Offensively, our team came together with a combined 13 hits and three home runs, setting a competitive tone for the day.
The second game against Guatemala we had another great performance from my teammate Maci Barnes. She pitched three innings, striking out seven batters. On the offensive side, we batted an impressive .421, eight hits and a home run to secure an 8-0 victory, leaving Team USA 3-0 in the Pan Am Championship hosted by WBSC Americas.
(It was a) total team effort from Team USA. Everyone is working together, embracing their roles (and) working toward a common goal to win the gold!
After the games, we headed back to the hotel to eat and relax by the pool. I also got to walk the beach and see a cool wall of rocks. I haven’t gotten into the ocean in Acapulco, because the waves are huge!
Once I got to enjoy the pool and beach, it was time to head back to the room to recharge, stretch and prepare for the next challenge tomorrow vs. Venezuela at 1 p.m. Central Time. (We’re) looking to finish strong in pool play before we head into the medal rounds.
GO TEAM USA!
