International Events: Team USA Improves to 3-0 With Back-to-Back Run-Rules Over Australia and Canada (Aug. 31, 2024)

The WBSC U-18 World Cup action in Group C rolleld on Friday as Team USA captured another pair of wins.

The following release was issued by USA Softball to recap the doubleheader for the USA Team as the Red, White & Blue defeated

DALLAS, Texas (August 30, 2024) — The U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team (WNT) came out firing on Day 2 of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 World Cup Group C Stage Event, outscoring their opponents 19-1 with a pair of run-rule victories over Australia (10-0 in four innings) and Canada (9-1 in six innings).

The U.S. offense exploded in the two wins with a combined 26 hits with Townsen Thomas and McLaine Hudson each tabbing five hits on the day, while Payton Westra followed close behind with four.

Also highlighting the U.S. offense was home runs off the bats of Ella McDowell (vs Australia) and Sophia Mujica (vs Canada).

Shining in the circle for Team USA was Lexie Hames who fanned eight batters via strikeout through four innings in the shutout victory over Australia before Cameryn Harrison took control in Game 2 tossing six innings for a run-rule victory.

The pitching staff combined for 10 strikeouts on the day while allowing only one earned run through 10 innings.

Team USA returns to action Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT against Mexico followed by a matchup against the Philippines on Sunday (Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m. CT) to close out the opening round.

The playoff round is slated for Monday, Sept. 2.
