When you know, you know.

That was the case within the last month for Chloe Mulcahey, a 5-foot-10 pitcher and corner utility player who attends Crescenta Valley High in Glendale, Calif.

Chloe has been clocked in the low-to-mid 60’s.

On her recent visit to Seattle University’s campus, the 2027 grad who carries a 4.3 GPA and received the President’s Educational Award for Excellence says she was blown away by the feelings she experienced:

“Everything quieted down, like I was in my own world,” she remembers.

The West Coast Conference school even has a strong department in what she wants to major: nursing.

Seattle University is up the California coast north a bit—a 17-hour drive give or take a few minutes–but the right-handed pitcher who throws in the low-to-mid 60’s with a great change-up could float on air to get there… she’s that excited!

Chloe credits her family background and faith for how she’s gotten to this point.

“I’m the fourth of five children, and growing up in a big family has shaped my work ethic and competitive mindset,” she believes.

“Above all, my faith as a Christian is the foundation of who I am. I strive to honor God through my leadership and character, and I cherish my family who constantly motivates and supports me in everything I do.”

As a sophomore last spring in the circle, Chloe appeared in nine games and went 3-3 with a 3.33 ERA and was named 2nd Team All-Pacific League and this season the team captain started out on fire with a 1.83 ERA and a 3-0 record.

With the stick last year, Chloe batted .432 with a .468 on-base percentage and hit five home runs to drive in 22 runs as a sophomore. To date in her young junior season (2026), she’s played six games so far and already has smacked three home runs and driven in seven runs.

When it was time to pull the trigger and commit, Chloe gathered her family around her and told the Seattle staff what they wanted to hear—that she was official committing.

The athlete’s mother Bobbie Mulcahey told Line Drive’s Brentt Eads it was an experience she’ll never forget.

Geoff Hirai, Seattle University head coach.

“The moment Chloe made the call to Coach Geoff Hirai at Seattle University softball, my eyes filled with tears,” she remembers.

“It wasn’t just about committing to play Division I softball — it was watching years of hard work, sacrifice, and faith come together in one beautiful moment.

“Chloe shows up every day—on the field and in the classroom—giving her all and trusting God’s plan, even when the road wasn’t easy. We are so proud of the young woman she has become in her 17 years.”

Here’s the video clip of when the athlete called Coach Hirai and told him she wanted to play for the Redhawks:

In the first-person account below, Chloe addresses her recruiting journey and explains how and why she came to commit to the West Coast Conference school…

My Commitment to Seattle University… by Chloe Mulcahey

My recruiting journey with Seattle University began at a Lady Dukes camp, where eight other schools were watching from the stands.

Chloe pitching last fall for the So Cal A’s club team.

I made the most of that opportunity, and I hit around 15 balls over the fence during the front toss, showing my power at the plate and demonstrated that I could contribute as both a pitcher and a utility player at any position on the field.

The coaches were impressed enough to reach out to my coaches directly, and they came to our practice to watch me throw a bullpen and take batting practice.

The very next day, they were at our games and afterward they told me they wanted to get me out on a visit as soon as possible.

What stood out to them wasn’t just my physical tools—they specifically mentioned my softball IQ, my positive attitude, and my ability to make adjustments pitch to pitch. They were excited about my strength and the potential they saw as I continue to develop.

The So Cal junior hit three home runs in her first three games of the 2026 season.

I visited the campus during Winter Break, the first week of January, and that’s where they offered me.

From the moment I arrived, I knew this place was different. I loved the city vibe and the location, but what really stuck with me was how the second you stepped onto campus, everything quieted down, like I was in my own world.

The city around it was beautiful, and the environment just felt right.

The visit itself blew me away in every way. The nursing program was unlike anything I had ever seen and it had always been my dream to pursue that path.

The school had just recently redone the weight room and my jaw literally dropped when I walked in.

When not pitching, Chloe is a strong defensive infielder.

More than anything, I loved the coaching staff and the environment they had built. I knew immediately I would feel welcomed and could thrive there.

I committed the first week of February. I texted Head Coach (Geoff) Hirai asking if I could call him and, when the time came, I gathered my whole family, my mom, dad, and two brothers in the living room and called my sister Carley, who plays at the University of the Pacific, and my older sister Emily on the phone as well.

Coach Hirai and I talked for a bit about Seattle U’s recent games before I told him how grateful I was for the offer and how much I would love to commit to his program. He said it was absolutely amazing news and welcomed me to the Redhawks family.

Seattle University checked every single box I was looking for. I wanted to stay on the West Coast, have the opportunity to pitch, hit, and play utility, and be able to major in nursing, because that has always been my dream.

A lot of people told me that wasn’t realistic and that I needed to lower my standards, but Seattle offered me all of that and more.

I couldn’t feel more blessed. I give all the thanks to the Lord for this opportunity and this new chapter in my life.
