High School: This Week’s Line Drive SUPER 70 National Softball Team Rankings… Two Top 5 Squads Still Alive & Texas Wraps Up Season (June 4, 2026)

It has now reached that point of the high school season around the nation in which there are more teams listed in the national rankings that have completed their seasons.

Some of them have won state championships while others are still ranked behind teams they lost to in various state playoffs.

Top 5 Teams Still in Play

The main two teams that still began this week with games to play in their seasons are No. 1 South Warren of Kentucky and No. 5 Destiny Christian of Sacramento (Calif.).

South Warren gained its spot in the 16-team Kentucky state tournament (a state that doesn’t do its playoffs in divisions) with a 4-0 win last week over Barren County of Glasgow.

The Spartans pen the state tourney tonight vs 30-10 Oldham County of Buckner, Ky. The quarterfinals will be on Saturday with the title game set for June 13.

Destiny Christian won in its CIF Northern California D1 regional opener on Tuesday, 13-2, over College Park of Pleasant Hill.

As expected, the Lions (who were D3 for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section) were moved up to D1 for the regionals.

They are looking to complete an unbeaten season with a CIF NorCal D1 title, but still need to win on Thursday vs St. Francis of Mountain View in the semifinals and would play either Clovis East or Whitney of Rocklin in Saturday’s regional championship.

That’s a Wrap in the Lone Star State

The big state that wrapped up its softball championships last weekend was in Texas and for the top divisions there were no upsets.

Lake Creek Wins 5A-D2 in Come-Back Close One

In the Class 5A D2 final, national No. 2 Lake Creek made it a repeat for the title and won its fourth state title in five years but it wasn’t easy in a 6-5 win over Brewer.

The Lions fell behind 3-0 in the first inning on a three-run homer and were tied at 5-5 after the top of the fifth inning.

They took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI grounder by Sara Wiggins, who earlier hit a two-run double. Madalyn Davis scored the go-ahead run and was named the game’s MVP. She finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Barbers Hill Takes Class 5A-D1 Title

Lake Creek would have finished No. 1 in the nation in the SUPER 70 if it was unbeaten. Instead, there was a loss to Barbers Hill and we know others may have Barbers Hill higher ranked because of that result.

It’s just that Barbers Hill also had four other losses and unlike Lake Creek also had a loss during its run to its state title.

The Eagles didn’t have any issues in their Class 5A D1 title game vs Aledo and posted a mercy-rule 11-0 win.

The final score came after a walk off grand slam by Madi Ray and it also was a perfect game for pitcher Macie Bryant, the outstanding 2027 grad who is committed to LSU.

Here’s a video montage of Bryant’s tremendous pitching and the big hits that gave Barbers Hill the title:

Katy Crowned Class 6A D2 Crown

Texas also is likely going to have another final Top 10 team nationally with Class 6A D2 state champion Katy.

The Tigers took on a Forney team that had knocked out nationally ranked Guyer of Denton in the semifinals and won in their state final, 7-2. Freshman Haley Schmitt pitched a five-hitter with eight strikeouts. The team also ended the season with 97 home runs.

South Carolina’s GCA Finishes Undefeated in Class 4A Run

Another team that likely wrapped up a final Top 10 national ranking was Gray Collegiate Academy of South Carolina.

In that state, it’s a best-of-three series for the state championships and in Class 4A the War Eagles swept A.C. Flora of Columbia with wins of 7-1 and 11-1.

In the final game, Makenzie Sease smacked a pair of homers. Aspen Boulware also had a homer. The War Eagles also wrapped up a 33-0 season.
