High School: This Week’s Line Drive SUPER 70 National High School Softball Rankings Features One Top 15 Team That Just Won a State Title! (May 7, 2026)

The Lady Cavaliers of Calvary Baptist Academy (Shreveport, Louisiana) just won its sixth straight state title, finishing the 2026 season with a 37-1 record.

Louisiana has often been the earliest state to conclude its season in the many years we’ve been doing national softball rankings. This knowledge and experience are why we probably have Louisiana state title teams lower than most others who do this type of work.

We know those teams are done, we know a lot of other teams ranked higher than them are going to lose in other, sometimes much later state playoffs. Calvary Baptist Academy therefore is going to move up from the No. 14 spot it is currently placed in the SUPER 70.

Calvary Baptist Academy head coach Tiffany Wood had a lot of other reasons to celebrate on the state title day. The win gave her 400 all-time coaching wins, and it came on her 37th birthday.

Here’s a great highlight video of the championship game as produced by GeauxPreps:

University of Georgia-bound Kynzee Anderson had a three-hitter for the Lady Cavaliers and ended with nine strikeouts. Sophomore Baylor Bockhous also smacked her 21st home run and teammates Carlie Guile and Jaycee Sledge also had two hits.

Pitcher Kynzee Anderson, a Georgia signee and No 2 ranked player in the 2026 HOT 100, gave up just three hits in the title win.

The team finished with a 37-1 record with the only loss coming to West Monroe, which is a team that the Lady Cavaliers also beat earlier in the season. West Monroe lost in the Non-Select Division I state semifinals.

It probably would take an unbeaten record for Calvary Baptist Academy to be seriously considered for the final No. 1 ranking in the SUPER 70 ahead of the usual powerhouse squads from California, Texas and Florida.

But the Lady Cavaliers did play a few out-of-state opponents to pump up their resume, including Bryant of Bryant, Ark. and Bullard of Bullard, Texas.

Bryant is currently the No. 1 ranked team in Arkansas and Bullard is still going in the Class 4A state playoffs in Texas.

You see, even though the Louisiana teams are done, how some of these other teams still going in other states end up in their playoff runs can have an impact in the rankings.

Top 30-Ranked Teams to Meet in Texas 6A State Playoffs

The third week of the Texas University Interscholastic League state playoffs will be this weekend and there is going to be one major match-up in the 6A bracket with SUPER 70 No. 15 Kingwood taking on SUPER 70 No. 27 Katy.

It takes many weeks to get through the entire state playoffs in Texas as there’s just one round per week all the way up until the state finals. That round can be a best-of-three series or a one-game do-or-die depending on the results of a coin flip between each team in each round.

California Playoffs Start Next Week

Some of California’s various CIF section playoffs, most importantly the CIF Southern Section, will get underway next week.

As some may know, the SUPER 70 national rankings and the FAB 50 before that are based in California (so is MaxPreps by the way).

There may be California bias in these rankings, but for this week all three teams that dropped out of the first 50 were California teams and none of the three coming up as newcomers are from California.
