High School: This Week’s Edition of the Line Drive SUPER 70 National High School Softball Rankings! (April 9, 2026)

The top three teams remain the same in this week’s edition of the SUPER 70 national softball rankings, but there’s much upheaval throughout the rest of the rankings.

Significant Movement This Week as Teams from Cali, Florida and Texas Enter Top 50

With Doral Academy of Florida winning the title last weekend at one of the nation’s top tournaments, the Kissimmee Klassic, and with Norco of California doing the same at another one of the nation’s top tournaments, the Michelle Carew Classic, both of those teams got bumps this week into the top six.

The five-time state champion Orange Beach (Ala.) Makos remains on top after finishing last week with a 27-0 record.

There’s also a whopping 14 new teams in the top 50 part of the SUPER 70 and five more new teams in the list of 20 More Team that are now in the next Top 20 part of the SUPER 70.

One of the best things we like about No. 1 Orange Beach of Alabama is that head coach Shane Alexander puts the team in front of top teams from other states.

The Makos going to the Kissimmee Klassic in Florida last year and winning the tourney title is a recent example, but in the last two weeks they have notched wins against Anthony Wayne of Whitehouse, Ohio, and McCracken County of Paducah, Ky.

Neither of those are currently in the SUPER 70, but they have been before and before that when our long-running national rankings were known as the FAB 50.

This week, Orange Beach has another big match-up on Thursday (the game might actually be over by the time some of you are reading this) vs unbeaten South Warren of Bowling Green, Ky.

South Warren just notched a win over previous national No. 17 Pace (Florida) and was jumped from No. 37 to No. 11 in this week’s rankings.

Doral Academy (Fla.) Jumps into Top 10 with Kissimmee Klassic Title

Camila Diaz

Doral Academy was the top team in Florida last season with just a loss to Orange Beach at the Kissimmee Klassic spoiling a perfect season.  The Firebirds have one loss this year but went to the Kissimmee Klassic last weekend and took the title with several big wins.

They beat Hagerty of Oviedo in the quarterfinals, 5-0, on a no-hitter by freshman phenom Camila Diaz. They played then unbeaten Melbourne in the semifinals and won, 4-1, before they topped Bartow in the title game, 5-1.

Diaz had a three-hitter and struck out six for the Firebirds vs Bartow. Anabula Abdullah, who was a hitting star all week, had two hits along with Ashley Tremont, with one of hers being a double.

Melbourne dropped from No. 4 to No. 7 in this week’s SUPER 70 since its only loss at the Kissimmee Klassic was to Doral Academy. The winning Firebirds moved up from No. 12 to No. 5.

Norco (Calif.) Captures Prestigious Michelle Carer Classic Championship

The Michelle Carew Classic in Anaheim has been one of the top national tournaments as well since it has been able to invite top teams from Northern California and the San Diego area to mix in with the usual powerhouses from the CIF Southern Section.

Coral Williams

Norco is the defending CIFSS D1 champion with loads of returnees and looked like a national contender as it won the Michelle Carew Classic with a 7-0 win over previous SUPER 70 No. 7 Fullerton in the title game.

Although Fullerton was not able to use its No. 1 pitcher in the two-game final day of the event, Norco still looked dominant behind junior pitcher Coral Williams. The UCLA committed junior pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts.

Angelina Gonzales led the offense by ripping a pair of homers. Oklahoma State-bound pitcher Peyton May also pitched well for Norco during the week with 11 innings of not allowing an earned run.

With the tourney win, Norco moved up to No. 6 in this week’s national rankings but is still behind California No. 1 Murrieta Mesa in the SUPER 70. Murrieta Mesa began this week at 17-0 (including the title at the Dave Kops TOC in Arizona) and is not expected to lose for the rest of the regular season.

Since all states will now be playing games beginning this week (Michigan and Wisconsin and others are just starting) these rankings will go to a weekly schedule for the rest of April and into May.

Interestingly, we’re only a couple of weeks out from some warm weather states having their state playoffs completed.

The SUPER 70 is updated weekly through June…
