Nebraska’s Gretna High started its season 6-0 to run its unbeaten streak to 44 games dating back to last year’s 38-0 state title campaign and remain in the top spot in the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll on Thursday.
The Dragons have outscored opponents 49-10 through their first six games, and have No. 16 Blue Springs South in the first of two games Friday at the Top Gun Invitational in Kansas City.
Gretna will face sixth-ranked Bloomfield (5-0) in its opening game on Saturday.
Meanwhile, No. 2 East Coweta (12-0) kept pace with Gretna, winning all three of its games this past week, and back-to-back Iowa state Class 2A titlist Van Meter (34-2), whose summer season is complete, rounds out the unchanged top three.
Buford (7-0) added six more victories to its 2025 ledger to move up one place to the No. 4 spot, with fellow unbeaten squads Dale (6-0), Broomfield and Wesleyan (7-0) each gaining two positions this week.
One-loss schools North Cobb. (9-1), Owasso (11-1) and Papillion-LaVista (5-1) round out the first 10.
Elsewhere, No. 16 Blue Springs South will play three ranked teams in its first six games. The Jaguars have both top-ranked Gretna and No. 6 Bloomfield on Friday to open the season, then have 10th-ranked Papillion-LaVista looming on Sept. 4.
