High School: Buford Stays Perfect & On Top of NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll (October 25, 2025)

For the third consecutive week, Buford did not allow a run and remained perfect atop the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The (32-0) Wolves scored 19 times while sweeping a best-of-three playoff series against Grovetown on Monday, winning 9-0 and 10-0, to punch a 21st consecutive trip to the Georgia state Elite eight.

The pair of victories gave Buford 54 wins in its last 56 contests and extended its run at No. 1 in the rankings to six straight weeks.

The next three teams remained the same, including No. 3 Lincoln Southwest joining second-ranked Van Meter (34-2) as a state champion. The (35-3) Silver Hawks wrapped up their season Monday with a 4-2 triumph over No. 8 Millard North (35-5) in the Nebraska Class A final.

Fourth-ranked East Coweta (28-3) blanked Cherokee 3-0 and 2-0 Monday in its playoff series to continue its run through the Georgia playoffs, while poll newcomer Northwest (30-2) capped a Nebraska Class B state title with a 4-3 victory over Beatrice on Monday.

Northwest’s only losses all season came during a two-game stretch in late August. The Vikings lost 10-4 to perennial power Skutt Catholic and 4-3 in eight innings to St. Cecilia. Northwest won a Oct. 16 rematch with the Skyhawks in the Class B, Bracket 1 final, while St. Cecilia went on to capture the Nebraska Class C state championship.

No. 6 Broomfield (22-2) won two more games and will play Arapahoe on Friday in the Colorado Class 5A state tournament, while Mustang (25-3) is the other new team in the rankings at No. 7 following a decisive 8-2 victory over then 10th-ranked Choctaw on Saturday in the Oklahoma 6A championship.

State rankings submitted by the NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll.

Five states play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season:
