Event Spotlight: PGF Ultimate Challenge Features Many of the West’s Top Teams This Weekend (October 31, 2025)

Pool play kicked off Friday night at the Salinas (Calif.) Sports Complex.

One of the top Fall travel events each year is the PGF Ultimate Challenge in Salinas, Calif. which includes 36 total teams with 12 each in the 14U, 16U and 18U age divisions.

All of the teams are from California except for a few notable exceptions including Arizona rising and the NW Bullets out of Washington.

Many of the teams are of national caliber, meaning they compete regularly at top club championship events including PGF and Alliance Championships, Boulder IDT, etc.

Some of these who’ve won at this elite level include the BSC Bengals, Lady Magic, Northwest Bullets, So Cal A’s, Sorcerer, and Suncats, to name just a few.

Here is the complete list of teams competing this weekend:

What makes the event especially enjoyable—along with watching the level of individual and team talent—is that all the games played are at one site: the Salinas Sports Comple which has six fields all within sight of each other.

This 2025 edition of the PGF Ultimate Challenge kicked off on Friday night with each team playing one game.

The format includes each participating team being guaranteed at least four games—three pool games followed by seeded single elimination bracket games starting Saturday evening and wrapping up Sunday with championship games at 2 pm PST.

Each age division winner receives $10,000 and customized Ultimate Challenge rings for the coaches and players; the 2nd place teams receive a check for $2,000.

As the opening day of this weekend’s three-day tourney was on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025—Halloween—it was fun to see that many of the parents and family members dressed up in costumes to provide a festive atmosphere.

Perhaps most playing or those supporting them couldn’t go trick-or-treating this year, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t get into the spirit of fun!

Below are a few images showing how the opening of the PGF Challenge was enjoyed by those honoring the Halloween holiday fun…
