There was a lot of Maroon and Black to be seen at the 2nd Annual OnDeck Junior’s Tournament over the weekend in the San Diego area.
That’s because the championship finale saw two Batbusters teams face off in what proved to be a tension-filled pitching battle with the Batbusters – Byrd team coming out on top 2-1 over the Batbusters – Capek squad.
Taylor Goodwin—who was ranked No. 4 overall in the 2030 Line Drive HOT 100 Rankings released in February—was the pitching star for the victors as she handled the pressure in the finale which came down to an exciting game-ending play.
In the bottom of the 7th, the Capek team was down by one run with one out but had the potential game-tying run on second. A ball was smacked to centerfielder Audrey Munoz for the Byrd team and she made the catch and doubled off the runner at second to close out the title win.
The winning Batbusters team now has an impressive 64-2 record after the nail-biting win on Sunday.
Another successful year for the event, Year 2 of the OnDeck Juniors 12U Invitational Tournament run by Derek Allister head of OnDeck Softball College Recruiting led Scott Berndes of the SoCal-based PowerSurge travel ball organization to say:
“Teams from all over the West Coast were invited and played in this double elimination tournament leading to many of these superstar 12U players now already being on the radar of some of the top colleges in the country.”
