Event Recap: Arizona Rising, Wildcats Claim 14U & 12U Titles at AZ Power 48 (Feb. 17, 2025)

AZ Power 48 was held Feb. 15-17 in Mesa/Queens Creek, AZ:

14U: ARIZONA RISING-KOBASEW/SPRING 5, LADY MAGIC 2029-ALLEN 2

Arizona Rising-Kobasew/Spring picked up a 5-2 win over Lady Magic 2029-Allen in the 14U championship on Monday at Frontier Family Park in Queens Creek, AZ.

2029 P Taylor Phillip gave up five hits and two runs in six innings while striking out three to get the victory for the Rising.

2029 OF Ameliana Mendez went 2 for 3 with a triple, a run and four RBIs for the Rising offense.

2029 SS/CF Peyton Knight had 12 hits and scored 11 runs on the weekend and locked down SS for her team and 2029 P/IF Charli Taylor threw 16 innings for the weekend and had an 0.875 ERA.

Rising-Kobasew/Spring defeated Las Vegas Blast 2011, 12-7, Arizona Storm-Pomeroy, 6-1, lost to 520 Ballerz, 6-4, and beat Arizona Storm-Schoeneweis, 6-1, Firecrackers 2028-RTY 8-4, 520 Ballerz, 7-5, and Lady Magic 2029-Allen, 5-2, in bracket games.

12U: WILDCATS PREMIER-LAUKAT 9, LADY MAGIC 2012-BIGLEY 5

Wildcats Premier-Laukat pulled out a 9-5 win over Lady Magic 2012-Bigley in 12U championship game on Monday at Frontier Family Park in Queens Creek, AZ.

2030 UT/RHP Lane Garcia, 2030 CF/C Charlize Hilleray and 2030 OF/2B Kate Ricketts each collected two hits apiece and 2030 MIF Athena Mendez and 2030 RHP/1B Charlee Nunes each drove in two runs for the Wildcats.

Garcia was the leader for the team on both sides of the ball. She had a 1.40 ERA with 33 Ks in 24.2 innings and batted .500 with 1 OTF HR. Ricketts had a team-high 10 hits, Nunes had a team-high nine RBIs and 2030 SS Shelly Lopez scored a team-high nine runs.

The Wildcats played stellar defense with a .970 fielding percentage as a team for seven games.

“I’m really proud of this team’s work ethic over the last few months,” Wildcats coach Neil Laukat said. “Our goal is to peak at the right time and we are heading in the right direction. With this tournament win, this team will get some well-deserved recognition. Our goal continues to be a national championship for this squad!”

Wildcats-Laukat defeated AZ Bolts-D’Alessandro, 15-0, Lady Magic 2012-Bigley, 2-1, Tennessee Mojo-Ramsey/Holland, 10-2, Arizona Storm-Beach, 7-5, and Lady Magic 2012-Bigley, 9-5.
