Event Recap: 18U, 16U, 14U & 12U Titles Crowned at Queen of Diamonds Championship (Dec. 15, 2024)

The Queen of Diamonds Championship was held Dec. 14-15 in Mesa/Queens Creek, AZ:

18U: ARIZONA RISING-APPEL 6-7, ARIZONA STORM-WESTOVER 0-4

Arizona Rising-Appel lost its first bracket game on Saturday, but came all the way through the loser’s bracket and beat Arizona Storm-Westover twice, 6-0 and 7-4, to win the 18U championship of the Queen of Diamonds Championship on Sunday at Arizona Athletics Grounds.

Texas A&M-bound Madison Sauni went 2 for 3 with a double, a run and two RBIs to help Arizona Rising knock off Arizona Storm in the first game of the championship and force an “IF” game.

Boise State-bound RHP/1B Kodi Crabtree went 2 for 2 with a homer and four RBIs and she pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts to help Arizona Rising close out the victory in the “IF” game.

“This was a huge team win for us tonight,” Sauni said. “We were missing several of our players this weekend, but this was a huge statement for us battling all the way to the end after starting off rough and losing our first game yesterday. I am so proud of my team and the perseverance that was shown today, battling through seven games. The trust and confidence we have in each other was a key factor in our wins today. This was a great day against good competition and we can’t wait to get back to work in January.”

Arizona Rising-Appel lost to Arizona Rising-GNR, 3-2, then beat Arizona Storm-Walding, 7-0. Arizona Rising-Vela, 4-0, Impulse-Nielson, 9-5, Arizona Rising-GNR, 5-4, AZ Hotshots-Delsante/Carroll, 6-1, Arizona Storm-Downes, 6-1, Arizona Storm National-Mathis, 10-0, and Arizona Storm-Westover twice in bracket games.

16U: ARIZONA STORM-CAPTAIN 5, ARIZONA RISING-APPEL/HAMEL 3

2027 CF Lainey Clapp went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs to lift Arizona Storm-Captain over Arizona Rising-Appel/Hamel, 5-3, in the 16U championship game on Sunday at Arizona Athletics Grounds.

2027 LHP Molly Frazier earned the win for Arizona Storm-Captain, giving up two hits and zero runs over 2.2 innings with three strikeouts and no walks.

“My team and I are so excited to place 1st in the Queen of Diamonds tournament,” Clapp said. “We have been training and practicing for this tournament with the main goal being to get a paid PGF Nationals berth. We’re so excited to accomplish that goal and come out undefeated with five wins!”

Arizona Storm-Captain defeated Lil Saints Gold, 21-0, Rogue Fc-LaMere, 14-5, Rogue FC-J. Decker, 10-0, and Arizona Rising-Appel/Hamel in bracket games.

Arizona Rising-Appel/Hamel beat Arizona Rising-Mabrey, 7-0, Beach SB-Calderon, 7-0, Rogue FC-Camacho, 7-4, lost to Arizona Storm-Captain, 7-2, beat Arizona Rising-Kobasew, 8-3, and lost to Arizona Storm-Captain in bracket games.

14U: TENNESSEE MOJO-RAMSEY/HOLLAND 9, ARIZONA STORM-ELLIS 0

2028 P Melody Fox led Tennessee Mosjo-Ramsey/Holland past Arizona Storm-Ellis, 9-0, in the 14U championship game of the Queen of Diamonds Championship on Sunday at Arizona Athletic Grounds.

Fox started and gave up two hits and zero runs with one strikeout and three walks in 5.0 innings to record the victory for Mojo.

2029 2B Ash Miller went 2 for 4 with two runs, 2029 SS Kinley Payne went 1 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs and 2028 RF Jordan Peterson went 2 for 3 with a run and three RBIs to power the Mojo’s offense.

Mojo-Ramsey/Holland defeated Athletics Mercado East Valley, 4–3, Arizona Storm-Pomeroy, 11-2, Team Hustle-Matuz/LaDrigue, 13-3, Arizona Rising-Lopez, 6-1, and Arizona Storm-Ellis in bracket games.

Arizona Storm-Ellis beat Arizona Storm-Carroll/Campbell, 11-3, Rogue FC-Ketchum, 10-4, Arizona Storm-Lavine, 9-7, lost to Mojo-Ramsey/Holland, 10-2, beat Arizona Rising-Mabrey, 11-4, and lost to Mojo-Ramsey/Holland in bracket games.

Tennessee Mojo-Ramsey/Holland also won the 12U title at the Queen of Diamonds Championship.

“Both of these teams are new to the program this fall,” Mojo coach Ramsey Harkness said. “(They) have worked hard and stuck with the process and it’s really cool how it has ‘paid’ off the last tournament of ’24. (I’m) Fired up to watch them continue to compete and grow in ’25.”

12U: TENNESSEE MOJO-RAMSEY/HOLLAND 4-3, AZ IMPACT-POLLOCK 2012S 1-1

Tennessee Mojo-Ramsey/Holland came out of the loser’s bracket to beat AZ Impact-Pollock 2012s, 4-1 and 3-1, in the 12U championship of the Queen of Diamonds Championship on Sunday at Arizona Athletic Grounds.

Mojo-Ramsey/Holland used 2030 P Lola Tsosie, 2030 P Mia Barreto and 2030 P Kenna Scott in the circle to beat AZ Impact in the first game and force an “IF” game.

Scott went the distance in the “IF” game to secure the championship.

The catching trio of 2030 C/1B Holland Schwarzkopf, 2030 C/3B Hayleigh Burton and 2030 C/1B Lexi Robinson held the pitchers accountable all weekend. Mojo also got clutch hits all tournament from utility experts 2030 SS/OF Alana Hart, 2030 2B/OF Vada Hoy, 2030 3B/OF Reagan Ramsey and 2030 1B/OF Reagan Ngo.

Mojo-Ramsey/Holland lost to AZ Impact-Pollock, 6-4, and beat Arizona Rising-Hatch 2013, 8-7, Arizona Rising-Hatch 2013, 10-9, Arizona Storm-Beach, 11-5, and AZ Impact-Pollock twice in bracket games.
