Event News: Vision Gold 09 Reaches Elite 8 at 14U AFCS (Aug. 1, 2024)

The Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series (AFCS) is being held all week in Chino Hills, CA (All rankings are Line Drive Hot 50 Club National Rankings):

In 14U Tier 1 Super Regionals:

2027 RHP Daylyn Osborne pitched a perfect game with eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings as Vision Gold 09 beat Bombers Gold National-Maloney, 10-0, to qualify for the Elite 8.

“Our pitcher/catcher combo of Daylyn Osborne and (2027 C) Alexis Lorennij continue to dominate defensively,” Vision Gold coach Anthony Merryman said. “They threw a perfect game to advance us to the Elite 8 and they have 66 Ks, three walks and only two earned runs on the week.”

2028 LF KC Bell went 1 for 2 with a run and two RBIs and 2027 SS Kylee Wyman went 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI to propel Vision Gold’s offense.

“Our girls came out with a ton of passion and energy today,” Merryman said. “They fed well off of each other and did whatever was necessary to contribute.” …

#31 St. Louis Chaos 09 National-Perone/Beatty upset #3 Impact Gold 2K9 National, 10-2, but 2027 MIF/C Celestina Daniels went 3 for with three RBIs as Impact Gold 2K9 National won the “IF” game, 6-1, to qualify for the Elite 8.

“This is our third consecutive year to reach the Elite 8,” Impact Gold coach Jared Bryant said. “It doesn’t get any easier!! The format of this tournament is the best!! We won a national (championship) in 2022 and going for another one starting tomorrow!!” …

2027 RF Jadin Basco went 3 for 3 with a double, a run and two RBIs to lead Fury Platinum 2027 National-Chaffin past #46 Texas Glory Gold, 5-2, and into the Elite 8.

“Big win today!!!” Fury coach Todd Chaffin said. “I’ve got a team of 10 girls. I pitched (2027 LHP) Elle Melder, who hadn’t pitched all week and she basically shut down a good-hitting Texas Glory Gold team. I had to move my first baseman to left field (Elle Melder had been my starting left fielder) and she made a diving catch for the first out in the last inning. Jadin Basco led the team with thee hits and two RBIs and (2028 CF) Harlie Jo Schexnayder had two hits. (2027 3B) Rose Ritchie had one hit and 2 RBIs. I’m really proud of these 10 girls and the effort they have given us this week. On to the final 8 starting tomorrow.” …

Louisville Lady Sluggers-VanBoxmeer beat #43 Iowa Premier National-Paz, 7-4, to force an “IF” game, but Iowa Premier came back and scored six runs in the top of the 8th inning to beat Louisville Lady Sluggers-VanBoxmeer, 9-3, and qualify for the Elite 8. 2027 RHP/UT Jenna Sheehan had a two-run double, 2027 1B/OF Allison Haag had an RBI double and 2028 MIF/OF Rylee Kluver had an RBI double to highlight Iowa Premier ITB outburst.

“Sloppy Game 1, but my girls knew what they needed to fix Game 2 and knew they had to bring the intensity!” Iowa Premier coach Olivia Paz said. “Again, a total team effort and the mentality stays the same, win and advance.” …

2028 2B Michaela Landers went 3 for 4 with two runs, 2027 2B/3B Arianna Lugo went 2 for 4 with two doubles, two runs and five RBIs and 2027 MIF Nia De Luna went 2 for 4 with three RBIs as #7 Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass beat OC Batbusters 10-AG, 11-1, to qualify for the Elite 8.

“It’s an exciting moment as we prepare these athletes all year for this moment,” Bombers coach Kristi Malpass said. “It only gets tougher each round and the preparation is key. You now enter a bracket with the top 8 teams in (the) country and battle it out!!.” …

#32 Aces Fastpitch National beat #26 OC Batbusters 09-AG, 10-2, to force an “IF” game, but OC Batbusters 09-AG came back to beat Aces Fastpitch National, 4-0, and qualify for the Elite 8.

2027 P Alexis Stamper (7 IP, 0R, 3 H, 0 BBs, 4 Ks), 2028 SS Bailey Holder (1 for 3, 2-run HR), 2027 2B Audrey Elyer (3 for 4, RBI), 2027 RF Atiana Rodriguez (1 for 4, 3B, 1 run, RBI) and 2027 C Madison Schepp (2 for 3, 2B) led OC Batbusters 09-AG.

“(It was a) huge accomplishment against a highly-competitive Aces Fastpitch National team (IDT Colorado Champions this summer),” Batbusters coach Miguel Aleman said. “They run-ruled us in the previous game, so we had to build some momentum. We found that in the circle with Alexis “Chach,” who pitched a complete game shutout! We were able to get on the board early with a clutch two-run home run from our SS Bailey Holder and never looked back from there! Our defense was lights out, committing zero errors this game.

“We look to regroup and refocus as we head into the Elite 8 for a rematch against Iowa Premier National-Paz, whom we suffered a tough 4-3 loss earlier in the tournament.” …

2028 SS Ainsley Morvan and 2028 RHP/UT Ella Baird homered to lift Bombers Gold Ark-La-Tex over #25 Oklahoma Athletics 09-Madden/Ashbaugh, 5-2, and qualify for the Elite 8. …

2027 C Emma Anderson went 3 for 3 with three doubles, run and two RBIs and 2027 RHP threw 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out 10 as #6 Corona Angels-Tyson defeated Firecrackers Medina-Martinez/R&B, 7-0, to advance to the Elite 8. …

In 12U Tier 1 Super Regionals:

Firecrackers Brashear 2011-AM advanced to the Elite 8 with victories over 520 Ballerz-Corona, 8-0, and OC Batbusters 2012-BC, 8-7.

2029 1B Brooklyn Fall (4 for 8, 1 double, 1 run, 2 RBIs), 2029 3B Ellie Lomeli (2 for 5, 1 double, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), 2029 OF Avery Noe (3 for 6, 4 runs), 2029 MIF Audri Botello (3 for 7, 1 double, 3 RBIs), 2029 OF/P McKenzie Miletic (3 for 7, 1 double, 1 run) and 2029 P Julia Reightley (5 IP, 0 ER, 6 Ks) were Firecrackers Brashear’s leaders for the day.

“(It) was a great game to make the Elite 8,” Firecrackers coach Sean Brashear said. “winning in two ITBs and coming from behind in both of the ITBs shows the mental toughness of this group!! Great accomplishment to make the Elite 8 and this group is excited for more.” …

OC Batbusters-Stith/Byrd defeated Texas Glory RWB, 3-2, and NorCal Batbusters 2011-Gann, 5-1, to qualify for the Elite 8.

IF Zoey Novoa tripled and scored from third base on OF Lily Guerra’s walk-off squeeze in the bottom of the 7th inning to give OC Batbusters-Stith/Byrd the win over Texas Glory RWB.

P/OF Grace Kumpel threw a complete game with 11 strikeouts and Novoa went 3 for 3 with three RBIs to lift OC Batbusters-Stith/Byrd over NoCal Batbusters-Gann in the Super Regional final.

“We are very excited for our team to reach the Elite 8 as primarily a first-year 12U team,” Batbusters coach Jeff Byrd said. “It’s been a pleasure to be a part of this tourney and it means a lot to our girls.” …

Impact Gold National 2011-Mendoza punched its ticket to the Elite 8 with an 8-0 victory over OC Batbusters-Mendoza.2029 C Avyn Kuehn (.833 AVG, 1 double, 2 SBs), 2029 SS Lyla-Cate Wilmberly (.625 AVG, 1 triple, 1 HR, 3 RBIs, 2 SBs), 2028 P/UT Te’A Turner (.600 AVG, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs) and 2030 P Sophia Poulis (6 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 5 Ks, .150 BAA) led the way for Impact Gold.

“Getting through the Super Regionals and advancing to the Elite 8 today was a tough,” Impact Gold coach Daven Mendoza said. “Having to play back-to-back 7-inning games in the California heat and on turf was a challenge. Our last game against OC Busters-Mendoza was a battle of attrition. We had two girls go down with heatstroke and I believe they had a few as well. Proud of our girls for staying in the fight, regrouping and getting the job done with an 8-0 run-rule to send us to the Elite 8!!” …

OC Batbusters-Neff/Horton picked up a 4-2 victory over Texas Glory to qualify for the Elite 8. …

Firecrackers Brashear-Smith, OC Batbusters 2012-BC, OC Batbusters-Mendoza-Firecrackers Medina-GGG winner and Texas Glory RWB-NorCal Batbusters 2011-Gann winner won loser’s bracket games to qualify for the Elite 8. …
