Event News: THE Spring Games in Florida Continue… & Line Drive Will Be There This Week! (Mar. 1, 2025)
Last weekend, we previewed THE Spring Games with this article: College News: THE Spring Games – Softball’s Largest Event – Kicked Off on Friday, Runs Through March 28 (Feb. 23, 2025)
As noted in that article, my wife Shannon and I will be at the Games this week to see the action up close and the wonderful array at the Div. I, II and III levels.
The event started on Friday, Feb. 1 and will run through March 28, 2025, featuring more than 1,200 games with 280 competing teams!
The biggest softball event in the universe, THE Springs Games is loaded with many top teams, especially in the Div II and III ranks.

For example, in the most recent NFCA/GoRout Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll, seven teams in the Top 25 (# 3 Rowan, #4 Wisconsin-Oshkosh, #5 Belhaven, #10 Trine, #20 Calin, #21 Wisconsin-Whitewater, #3 Wisconsin-Stevens Point) are competing at THE Spring Games with four teams that also received votes: Coe, Husson, Eastern and St. Mary’s (Minn).
And speaking of St. Mary’s (Minn.), the head coach, John Tschida, is one of the winningest coaches in softball with over 1,000 victories in 30 seasons and numerous awards. He took St. Thomas straight from D3 to D1 a few years back and, as one staff member at THE Spring Games noted:
“He’s a rock star and it’s likely his team will do great things this season.”
This year is Tschida’s 10th season coaching at St. Mary’s and going into the season his record at the school is 276-93 and his career record—including 21 years at the Univ. of St. Thomas—is 1,079-243.
This year, the Cardinals are 8-0 and will face a real challenge this Wednesday, March 5th, when St. Mary’s will face No. 10-ranked Trine at the DiamondPlex in Clermont, Fla. kicking off at 9 am EST.
