Event News: OC Batbusters-Stith/Byrd, Texas Glory RWB, Corona Angels-Tyson & Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass Advance to 12U & 14U AFCS Finals (Aug. 3, 2024)

The Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series (AFCS) is being held all week in Chino Hills, CA (All rankings are Line Drive Hot 50 Club National Rankings):

In 12U Tier 1 Final Four:

OC Batbusters-Stith/Byrd defeated Impact Gold National 2011-Mendoza, 4-0, on Saturday at BLD in Chino Hills, CA, to advance to the national championship series.

2030 P Taylor Goodwin once again dominated in the circle, throwing a three-hit shutout.

Offensively, 2030 2B Logan Fong went 3 for 4 and scored 2 runs while making multiple putouts.

“We are very excited to play the best from the state of Texas,” said Batbusters coach Jeff Byrd, who led SoCal FireByrds to the PGF 10U Premier national title game last summer. “After squeaking by them in the last inning earlier in this tournament, I know they will be looking to get even. They are a great team in all aspects. They pitch very well and are fast on the bases. It will be quite the challenge beating them twice. We will have to play out very best softball to come out on top.”

Texas Glory erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. 2029 MIF/OF Addison Raugh went 2 for 3 and 2031 2B Ayanna Perez had two RBIs for Texas Glory. 2029 RHP Gabbi Bright pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings to record the shutout.

“Making it to the Alliance championship games is a significant achievement and a testament to our team’s hard work, dedication and commitment to improving,” Texas Glory coach Bill Wark said. “Reaching the championship level shows that the team has worked well together, building strong chemistry and communication on and off the field.

When our girls focus and play together as a team, it is hard to beat us. The coaching team has high expectation and our vital role is to guide and motivate our players, helping them to improve and stay focused on our team goals.”

This is Texas Glory’s first appearance in the 12U Tier 1 national championship series.

“I am extremely proud of all our girls for playing through the grind of the Alliance championship,” Wark said. “It is going to be a great series tomorrow.” …

“Punching a spot in the national championship series is a huge moment for these athletes,” Bombers coach Kristi Malpass said. “It wasn’t easy. It’s hard with the format and doing it in one week isn’t built for the weak. We are facing a really strong California team, who is very well coached. It will definitely be a game, Texas vs California. We didn’t expect anything less than that.”
