Day 2 of the Midwest High School Invite delivered on its promise of more intense high-level play as teams from across four states battled for early season bragging rights.

Here are the highlights from Saturday’s action…

Broken Arrow (Okla.) High won twice on Saturday, beating two teams from Missouri.
A Pair of Undefeateds

When the final games wrapped on Saturday evening, only two programs—Nebraska’s Millard North High School and Oklahoma’s Broken Arrow (Okla.) High School – walked away undefeated after two grueling days of play at the Mid America West Sports Complex in Shawnee.

— Millard North quickly set tone on Saturday coming out with their bats on fire.

The Mustangs opened the day with a commanding 17-2 victory over Colorado’s Chatfield, an offensive show that left little doubt about their firepower.

Their toughest test came in the final game of the tournament, a showdown with Colorado’s Broomfield, which saw Millard North secure a 9-7 win and completing a perfect weekend.

— Broken Arrow followed a similar path to perfection.

The Tigers began their Saturday with a hard fought 6-5 win over Missouri’s Raymore Peculiar (Mo.) and then closed the weekend with authority, overpowering Blue Springs South (Mo.) in an 11-2 rout.

Others Who Impressed

While Millard North and Broken Arrow grabbed headlines, several other teams made statements of their own:

  • Millard (Neb.)West won a 6-5 thriller on Saturday against Park Hill (Mo.) High.
Stillwater (Okla.), after dropping its opening game on Friday, caught fire and never looked back. The Pioneers posted a 9-3 win over Park Hill (Mo.) before exploding for a 16-6 victory over Liberty North (Mo.), finishing the weekend with a strong 3-1 record and plenty of momentum for the season ahead.
  • Shutdown defense and stifling pitching provided plenty of intrigue as well. Nebraska’s Gretna High School blanked Broomfield (Col.) 3-0 in a tense matchup before shutting out Chatfield (Col.) 10-0.
  • Colorado’s Rockbridge High School also impressed, dominating Nebraska’s Bellevue East in a 13-0 win
  • In a thriller, Blue Springs (Mo.) and Beatrice (Neb.) squared off in one of the tightest games of the weekend that saw the Wildcats escaping with a narrow 5-4 victory over the Orangemen.
  • Another one-run tight matchup saw Millard West of Nebraska outlast Missouri’s Park Hill in a 6-5 inning victory.
  • Finally, Blue Springs South (Mo.) edged Edmond Memorial (Okla.) 3-2 in another thriller.

By the end of the two-day tournament, the Midwest High School Invite delivered elite competition, dramatic finishes, and a stage for programs from four states to test themselves early in the season.
