Event News: 18U, 16U, 14U & 12U Champions Crowned at Triple Crown Brashear Summer Invitational (June 16, 2024)

The Triple Crown Brashear Summer Invitational was held from June 15-16 at Lake Elsinore/Temecula/La Habra, CA (All rankings Line Drive Hot 50 Club National Rankings):

In 18U:

The highly-anticipated matchup between #1 OC Batbusters-Stith, the defending two-time 18U Alliance national champion, and #3 Athletics Mercado-Smith in the 18U championship game of the Triple Crown Brashear Summer Invitational ended in controversy on Sunday at La Bonita Park in La Habra, CA.

Athletics Mercado-Smith tied it 3-3 in the top of the 6th inning, but the top of the 6th ended in a controversial call. The time limit ran out and the score reverted back to the previously completed inning, so OC Batbusters-Stith won, 3-1.

Oklahoma-committed 2025 RF Kai Minor went 2 for 3 with RBI singles in the bottom of the 3rd and bottom of the 5th for the Batbusters. Boise State-bound 1B Makenzie Butt delivered a two-run double in the top of the 6th that momentarily tied the game, 3-3, for Athletics Mercado-Smith.

OC Batbusters-Stith went through three pitchers and pounded out 13 hits, including two homers from Oregon-bound 1B Rylee McCoy and a homer apiece from Duke-bound 2B Hailey Shuler and BYU-bound 1B Breana Townsend, to beat #10 Corona Angels-Tyson, 12-6, in the semifinals.

Athletics Mercado-Smith knocked off #11 Firecrackers Select-Rico/Brashear, 9-0, in the other semifinal.

In 16U:

#5 Firecrackers Select-Brashear used a four-run rally in the top of the 2nd inning to propel them to a 5-2 victory over #7 Athletics Mercado-Hovermale in the 16U championship game of the Triple Crown Brashear Summer Invitational on Sunday at Rosetta Canyon.

UC Santa Barbara-committed 1B Jaelyn Toldeo went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, 2026 2B Sophia Tice went 2 for 3, 2028 SS Neveah Wilson went 1 for 2 with a double and two runs, 2026 C Ava Tapia drove in a run, 2026 CF Sadie Mitchell went 1 for 1 with an RBI and 2027 LF Mariah Holguin went 1 for 1 with a run to lead the Firecrackers in the finals.

Firecrackers Select-Brashear defeated #9 Wildcats-Holcomb/Knight, 10-3, and #42 OC Batbusters-Fernandez, 9-2, to reach the finals.

Athletics Mercado-Hovermale beat Corona Angels-Slye, 9-0, and #13 BSC Bengals-R. Briggs, 15-7, to reach the finals.

Tice, who hit over .550 and made a number of spectacular defensive plays, was named MVP of the tournament.

In 14U:

2028 P Madeline Capek pitched a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and one walk in 7.0 innings to help #11 OC Batbusters-Stith/Garcia defeat #26 OC Batbusters 09-AG, 5-0, in he 14U final of the Triple Crown Brashear Summer Invitational on Sunday at Birdsall Field.

2029 CF Devaeh Crawford homered, 2028 1B Jaylene Jimenez went 1 for 3 with a run and two RBIs, 2028 SS Melia Munoz went 1 for 4 with two RBIs, 2028 P/IF Jaliane Brooks went 1 for 4 with an RBI and 2028 LF Mia Scott went 3 for 3 with three runs to highlight Batbusters-Stith/Garcia in the championship game.

Batbusters-Stith/Garcia beat Firecrackers Brashear-Hicks, 9-3, and Lady Magic Munoz-Blue, 4-2, to reach the finals.

Batbusters 09-AG upset #12 Beverly Bandits Premier 09-KAM, 7-2, and #6 Corona Angels-Tyson, 3-2, to reach the finals.

In 12U:

OC Batbusters-Neff/Horton pounded out 14 hits to overwhelm Firecrackers Brashear 2011-AM, 16-4, in the 14U championship game of the Triple Crown Brashear Summer Invitational on Sunday at Sommers Bend.

2029 SS Jenna Valladares went 2 for 5 with a double, two runs and five RBIs, 2029 RF Allie Alo went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs, 2030 P Lola Braun went 3 for 4 with three runs and 2029 2B Julia Horton went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI to pace the Batbusters in the finals.

OC Batbusters-Neff/Horton defeated Arizona Storm Premier-Schieneweis, 5-1, BSC Bengals-Merrilees, 4-0, and Firecrackers Brashear 2011-AM, , in bracket play.
