College News: NFCA Names Two as Div. I Louisville Slugger/NFCA Players of the Week; Kavan Named Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 19, 2025)

Nebraska’s Jordy Bahl and Arizona’s Miranda Stoddard shared Division I Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week honors with Texas’ Teagan Kavan being voted Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week for contests played Feb. 10-16.

Player of the Week (TIE) – Jordy Bahl (Nebraska) & Miranda Stoddard (Arizona)
Jordy Bahl, Nebraska

Bahl was dominant at the plate and in the circle, leading the 16th-ranked Huskers to 5-0 weekend at the Troy Cox Classic hosted by New Mexico State. The junior batted .625 (10-for-16) with nine of her 10 hits going for extra bases, including four doubles and four home runs. She scored nine times, drove in nine runs, slugged 1.750 and recorded her first multi-homer game of her collegiate career with two long balls against the host Lobos. Bahl added two complete-game five-inning shutouts (10 IP, 2H, 13 K, 2 BB), one a no-hitter against Northern Colorado, in which the ball did not leave the infield.

Miranda Stoddard, Arizona

Stoddard had a monster weekend lifting No. 13 Arizona to a 5-0 mark at its own Bear Down Fiesta. She was 10-for-12 (.833) at the plate with six home runs, at triple, 12 RBI, seven runs scored and a 2.500 slugging percentage. Stoddard also drew four walks, recorded a sacrifice fly and finished with a .824 on-base percentage. The graduate student homered twice in each of their first two games against South Alabama, driving in three and four runs respectively. Stoddard added four more RBI in the Wildcats’ first matchup with Cal State Fullerton

Teagan Kavan, Texas

In two starts against then-No. 11 Texas Tech, Kavan went 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 13 innings of work. She surrendered just one run, scattered 10 hits and walked two. In the first matchup, Kavan went all nine innings in a 2-1 win, allowing a run on four hits, fanning 18 Red Raiders and walking one. With that performance, she became the first Longhorn since Cat Osterman (June 1, 2006) to strike out 18 batters in a game. Kavan added four scoreless innings and five strikeouts in her second start.

The awards are voted on by the NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll Committee, which features one member head coach from each of the NCAA’s 31 conferences.
