Trevecca Nazarene’s Brianna Asmondy and Francis Marion’s Alyssa Poston captured the Division II Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week honors for contests played Feb. 17-23.
Asmondy made her hits count, as all five of them left the yard, as 12th-ranked Trevecca Nazarene collected Gulf South series win at Valdosta State, marking the program’s first-ever conference victory and series win.
She batted .556 (5-for-9) with 10 RBI, five runs scored and a 2.222 slugging percentage. Asmondy, who also walked once and was hit twice, recorded a .667 on-base percentage. She highlighted the weekend with a three-home run, six-RBI performance in game two.
Poston went 3-0 with a 0.35 ERA and 14 strikeouts to one walk in 20 innings of work. She went the distance twice, which included a two-hit shutout of Wingate. Poston fanned seven and did not issue a walk in the win against the Bulldogs. The junior southpaw twirled six shutout innings in an 8-0 triumph over then-No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne. In that start, Poston allowed three hits, struck out five and did not walk a batter.
The awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee, which features two member coaches from each of the NCAA’s eight regions.
