Club Team Spotlight: Mojo 07 – Wade… How Belt Notches & Boiling Water Is Making This Team Great (July 2, 2024)

Head Coach Jason Wade knows what it’s like to be part of a championship team.

The current coach for the Mojo – Wade 2025/2026 team has twice been on squads that won a pair of USA National championships, two years ago was an Alliance Network winner and for nine straight years has helped lead teams to Top 10 national rankings.

Line Drive Softball recently caught up Coach Wade to hear about his past, present and future in club softball… here’s what he had to say in our Q&A back-and-forth…

*****

A team bonding get-together making visors.

How did your current team get put together?
The team was constructed in the Fall of 2021 after having some leadership and directional issues with another organization and team.

After working on an older Mojo team for almost 10 years, I rotated down to start the next generation of talent to emerge.  We have been working through our roster since inception to find the right mix of talent and personalities to create a winning combination.

I think we are pretty close.

This team is stacked with more talent than ever before and represents four states, but state lines are not hurdles for the culture we have built.  We look for like-minded players and their parents who want a solid environment that is not toxic so their kids can grow and know they have support along the way.

What was the purpose of creating the team (showcase players, win titles, develop skills, etc.)?
Our purpose has always been to develop players, create a competitive environment, and in the end let wins be a by-product.

We can evaluate wins in many ways: from finding next level programs to play college ball, creating solid fundamentals, building young women to be self-sufficient, and much more.

Softball is more than just a game.

What would you say is the core strength of your Mojo team?
The strength of this team comes from the parental foundationWe have great families who want the best for the children and they have created great young women who will become great employees/entrepreneurs in the future.

What is your goal in working with this group of talented, young players?
Our ultimate goal is to find future college homes for each player to participate in while driving for their economic futures that their degrees will support.  Our team goal is that we will push for a national championship to go with the other three that I was lucky enough to be a part of.

What would you say makes you most proud of this team?
I’m proud of our team’s ability to work thru adversity.  Nothing is ever perfect, so we have to adapt and continue to stay in the fight.  This team continues to fight! We continue to put notches in our belts with beating teams that have been around longer and organizations that have solid teams.  We work to control what we can control.

What’s your softball background and how did get to where you are today?
I coached and played collegiate volleyball (23-plus years) with spot appearances playing baseball for summer organizations in college.

I went neck deep in softball when my girls showed an interest.  We had the ability to speed the learning curve and create an environment that drove excellence.  The saying, “iron sharpens iron” was our mentality.

We also pushed the theme “212” which is the temperature for boiling water.  At 211, it is just hot water, but with one degree more of extra effort you can power a locomotive.  We always work to give that extra degree of effort.

What makes the organization unique?
The organization is unique because Brooks Cherry runs the organization with the kids in mind versus profit in mindIt takes on a whole different feel when you ask for support and can receive it without wondering if it will cost “x” dollars.

How many teams are there in the organization overall?
I believe over 20There were three or four teams when we started in the organization.

If there is one thing you would say that separates you from other club programs, what would it be?
Our dedication to the players and their futures in the gameI don’t believe there is another group of coaches dedicated to helping players find the right fit at the next levelWe constantly work phones, emails, and social media to build relationships and to find the right fit.

Anything else you’d like to add about what makes your team so competitive
Against us, you know you’re going to be in a fight when you step in the other dugout.
