Club Team Profile: Ohana Tigers 14U – AV… “I’m Beyond Lucky to Coach These Girls” (June 26, 2024)

As far as history goes, the Ohana Tigers travel organization is fairly new.

The program was started less than a decade ago, in 2015 out of Cerritos, Calif. by brothers Sean and Joey Quarles.

One of the members on that first-ever 18U team was a young player named Jade Arlsanian who would go on to play at Div. 1 Sacramento State after a strong high school career that saw her team beat standout pitcher Rachel Garcia (UCLA) in the 2015 CIF Championship.

Head coach Jade Arslanian with Adrianna Rosales.

Jade’s father, Vince Arlsanian and fellow coach Dan Romero, led that first Tigers team and are still currently coaches on the Ohana Tigers 18U team.

“My dad has a been a coach for many years,” explains Jade, “so I followed in his footsteps. That 2015 were all D1 commits and he’s been the 18U Gold coach for Ohana ever since.”

Not too many years after the conclusion of her own college career, Jade says having been where her players eventually want to be (college), has helped her as a young coach.

“I’m close in age with the girls so I’m able to adapt and relate to them on a level most coaches can’t so we have a special bond,” she continues. “I’m a coach on the field and friend to them off the field and the girls and parents have really appreciated that.”

That philosophy of being competitive on the field and having fun off of it has been a blueprint for success for the Southern California-based program.

Last year, 10 of the current Ohana players competed on the Wilcats – Laukat team that placed 3rd at PGF Platinum Nationals.  In the Fall of 2023, the newly organized Tigers team would win the Triple Crown Sports Turkey Bash and go 6-and-0 at the Arizona Invitational.

This summer, the 14U team—comprised of all 2027 and 2028 grads—will compete at prestigious national travel ball tournaments such as Colorado Sparkler, Triple Crown Nationals and PGF Premier Nationals.

The Tigers were TCS Turkey Bash Champions last Fall (2023).

The secret to the team’s success? Coach Jade says it’s focusing on each player’s needs, goals and aspirations.

“The Ohana Tigers organization provides a fun and competitive atmosphere getting the girls ready to compete at the next level,” the young coach says, “We pride ourselves by doing the right thing by our players and making sure they have security and reassurance that they aren’t another fish in a big pond. We treat every player like they’re our own and want what’s best for them.”

Though the Ohana Tigers 14U team has players from different backgrounds, Coach Jade is quick to point out that “this challenges me to be a better coach.”

They’re all special in their own way,” she continues, “and have great attitudes which makes my life as a coach easy. I’ve coached some of them in previous years in different organizations, and have had great success with each of them.”

The 14U team has players from several organizations that Coach Jade has worked with previously.

The end result has been the formula of “talent plus team chemistry equals wins on the field.”

“Every team can have great players but if they don’t have that special bond it will show on the field. I also have a great set of parents that buy into what we teach here and understand the process. “

“This team thrives off of each other, they have a great bond and welcome everyone with open arms. I am beyond lucky to have these girls and wouldn’t be the coach I am today without them.”

Here’s a look at each player on the team listed alphabetically with comments from Coach Jade:
