THE FINAL PITCH Q&A

Name: Katharine Popovski
Hometown: Granite Bay, CA
High School: Del Oro High
Club Team: Lady Magic 2029-Allen 14U
Graduation Year: 2029
Height: 5-6
Position/s: RHP/UT
Nickname: My nickname has been “KitKat” ever since I was 7 years old. When I was playing soccer, there was another Katharine on our team. The coach needed a name that would differentiate me from her. “Kat” was a natural short form and I liked the candybar KitKat, so I suggested “KitKat.” My nickname carried over to softball. As I grew up playing softball, I was known as KitKat.
Social Media: @katharine.popovski.2029 on Instagram and @KPopovski2029 on Twitter
Honors: High Honor Roll (2022-Present), Citizenship Award (2025), #29 in the 2029 Line Drive Hot 100, USA Softball High Performance Program National Selection Event invitee (2025), chosen to compete for Team Canada 16U at the Triple Crown, International Challenge at the Colorado Sparkler (2025), 5th place at PGF Platinum 14U Nationals (2024), USA Softball All-American (2023), USA Softball High Performance Program National Selection Event Invitee (2022) and Oakland A’s team champion for my age group in the MLB Pitch, Hit and Run (2021).
Travel Ball Summer 2025 Stats: Hitting — .410 AVG, .577 SLG, 78 ABs, 32 hits, 24 RBIs; Pitching — 167 IP, 239 Ks, 1.63 ERA, 0.952 WHIP.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? My travel team is very passionate, hard working and great-spirited. I joined Lady Magic over 2.5 years ago in 12U with a goal to play with and compete with the most competitive players in our division. I love how our organization has supported our players in developing a good mentality, recruiting guidance and dedication to our sport. Lady Magic has not only been the team that I absolutely love to strive with, but the values in this organization have shown me parts of the game that are the most important like confidence, teamwork, communication, commitment and leadership.
Tell us about your experience at PGF Nationals? Our team had a great overall spring and summer season. At the PGF Nationals, we went undefeated and did great during our first five games. However, we had a couple of tough losses and didn’t finish as we wanted. Our team is getting stronger and we are looking forward to a great showing next year.
What makes players from the state of California special? What makes players from the state of California special is that we have great talent with many competitive teams to play against. I like playing with the best because it lets me practice performing under pressure and helps me to become a better player.
Can you talk about helping your team win the recent 14U title at the Phil Mumma Memorial Tournament? While playing in and winning in the 14U Phil Mumma Memorial Tournament, my team was very successful in working together to play our best. We believed in each other the
whole way through and got straight to work. I worked hard no matter the task, whether it was pitching, hitting or cheering for my teammates. Through that tournament I pitched 13.1 innings while striking out 25 and had a .000 ERA. In hitting, I hit a single and a
double and drove in four runs. I loved celebrating every successful moment during this tournament with my team.
Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? Our toughest opponent this season was Athletics Mercado-Tidd. Every game that we have played against each other was a focused- and full-effort game all the way until the end. Our teams both have great talent and that’s what makes the game exciting. Our team loves to play and learn from other talented teams.
What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? In order to become the person I am today, I went through challenges in life that have made me tougher as an athlete. As softball players, we have all faced a tough loss. I have come to realize that even though I really don’t like losing, the important thing is to learn how to be better and stronger and keep fighting for the next chance.

Do you have any family members/siblings that are athletes? I have two cousins that are pitchers that have had a lot of success playing Division 1 softball at Boston College and Bowling Green State. I also have an uncle that played football at Albion College when they won the National Championship. My parents were both multi-sport athletes when they were younger.
What are you looking for in a future college? In my future college, I’m looking for a school with excellent academic opportunities as well as an excellent softball program where I can play to my greatest potential, achieve my best as well as prepare for my future.
What college camps have you attended and are you planning to attend and why? The college camps that I have attended are a few on campus college camps and a few group college camps and I have had a great experience. I always have fun playing and competing and have learned a lot and met so many great coaches and players. I am planning to go to more camps throughout this next year to learn more and I am excited
to go showcase my skills.
What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? The areas that I am interested in future occupations are entrepreneurship or sports medicine. I am interested in entrepreneurship because I like to be creative and develop things to help people in a positive way. Sports medicine is also an area that I’m interested in because I want to help athletes improve their health and help them prevent and treat injuries for the sports that they play.
What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? My favorite subjects to study in school are Math, American Sign Language (ASL) and Business Leadership. I like math because I am good with numbers. I like ASL because it is very interesting to learn how to sign and I think that it is a valuable skill. I also really enjoy Business leadership because it gives me real-life experiences that will help me in my future.
Who is your sports hero and why? My sports hero is Shohei Ohtani (a two-time World Series-champion from the LA Dodgers) because he is an incredible two-way player and shows excellence at both hitting and pitching while hyping up his team.
What’s your favorite book to read and why? I have many favorite books, but my favorite one right now is “Scythe” by Neal Shusterman. I really like this book because of its thrilling plot twists and engaging
characters.
What’s the best hype song and why? The best hype up song is “Dream On” by Aerosmith. The song is about life’s challenges and how you have to keep pushing and striving until your dreams come true.
What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? I don’t watch much TV, but when I get a chance to, I like to watch “Shark Tank” because I like to see what products people design and what the sharks think about it. I also like the TV baking show “Nailed it!” because it’s fun to watch.
What’s your favorite movie and why? I like so many movies, it’s hard to pick one. I think what I like most is that I’m spending time together with my friends and family and, of course, the popcorn.
Do you have a secret talent/skill? I started playing flag football in high school this year as quarterback and learned that I can throw touchdown passes over 40 yards. I had a lot of fun playing
