Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? Having been at the (USA Softball) HPP National selection event, I saw players from other organizations. I really liked what I saw and seeing other Lady Duke players peaked my interest. Before that, I was on the Tulsa Elite 27/28 team for over five years.

Tell us about your experience at PGF/Alliance Nationals? My experience at Alliance Nationals for softball was both challenging and rewarding. It was an excellent experience and opportunity to compete against top-tier teams and players from across the country. The competition level was high, which pushed me in some games to help elevate my skills to improve my game. I also learned about the importance of leadership and resiliency in high-pressure situations.

Tell us about your experience with USA Softball HPP? I had a great experience at the HPP. It was great to be amongst some of the most talented softball players in the United States. It was a confidence booster to share the field with players that have already signed to Division 1 colleges. They were shocked to see my abilities and size, especially after they learned I was only 15 years old.

What makes players from the state of Oklahoma special? I think that having two of the best college softball programs in Oklahoma helps put us on the map, but I think what makes us so special is our drive and work ethic. Sometimes, I feel like other states don’t always take us seriously, but when they play us they are often surprised. But what I really love is that it shows that it doesn’t matter where you come from.

What was your highlight of the fall? This fall was such a season of growth. I experienced the pressure of being on Varsity as a freshman, with players I have never played with before. I was 14 (years old), playing with mostly seniors for the entire season until the very last Regionals game on my birthday. I turned 15 (years old). I also experienced my first “slump” and worked through it. This was important to me because it showed me that slumps will happen, but what matters most is how you overcome the slump and stay on course to your goals.

What have you been focusing on this offseason? I have been focusing on my strength and agility, as well as my mechanics when it comes to hitting. I am also working on my arm strength.

Which player/team has been your toughest opponent and why? The Aces organization has some pretty talented teams.

What have you faced/overcome in life that has made you the person you are today? I’ve overcome challenges such as balancing school, sports and personal responsibilities. Being able to balance these things has taught me the importance of staying focused on my goals. I have also missed out on a lot of social events that my peers have experienced. Each obstacle has definitely helped shape my determination and made me more confident in overcoming hard things.

Do you have any family members/siblings that are athletes? Avery Shine, dad, was recruited to play football at the University of Oklahoma; Rebecca Dobbins, aunt, and Mark Dobbins, uncle, both played basketball at Kansas State University.

What are you looking for in a future college? A university that is diverse and has a real family feel, somewhere where women athletes are valued.

What college camps are you planning to attend and why? I would like to attend camps at OU, OSU, Arkansas, Baylor, Duke, LSU and Texas.

What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I would like to study to be a nurse, specializing in OBGYN. I like working on a team and being a part of change.

What’s your favorite subject to study in school and why? English, because we have a lot of open discussions about real-world subjects.

Who is your sports hero and why? My Dad (Avery Shine), because he worked hard to develop his talent in a smalltown in Oklahoma on his own. My Dad never made excuses and grew up without a father. He worked hard and made his first dream — to attend OU on a football scholarship — a reality. I also admire my Dad because he is open about the importance of putting your academics first before the passion of a sport. My Dad has always kept it real and been honest with me about what it takes to be a successful student-athlete.

What’s your favorite book to read and why? “The Color Purple” (by Alice Walker) because it shows resilience and struggle. Everyone has a story, hardships come and go, but how you overcome struggle is most important.

What’s the best hype song and why? “Like That” by Future, Metro Boomin & Kendrick Lamar, because it puts me in a hyped-up mindset.

What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Grey’s Anatomy.” I like the entertainment the show gives.

What’s your favorite movie and why? “The Hunger Games,” because it is adventurous and shows you can overcome the doubt people sometimes have in others.

Do you have a secret talent/skill? I am really good at art and am pretty creative. I also enjoy cooking and making recipes my own.
