Club News: Firecrackers Brashear, Louisville Lady Sluggers Pull Off Upsets in 18U & 16U Regionals at AFCS (July 23, 2024)

The Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series (AFCS) is being held all week in Kokomo, IN (All rankings are Line Drive Hot 50 Club National Rankings):

In 18U Regionals:

Firecrackers Brashear rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the top of the 7th inning to pull out a 6-3 victory over #25 Athletics National 2024-Madden/Clemmer in the third round of Region #4 on Tuesday at Champion Park.

Cal State Fullerton-bound OF Briona Ferdman delivered a two-out, two-run single to tie the game, 3-3, UC San Diego-committed 2025 Victoria Hinostro hit a two-run shot and Michigan State-committed 2025 C/UT/CF Evun Seeforth added a solo blast for Firecrackers Brashear.

“(I’m) truly proud of this group,” Firecrackers coach Sean Brashear said. “They compete and grind. Oklahoma Nationals are an incredible team with tremendous athletes and great coaches, so a great win for our athletes and program.” …

Missouri-committed 2025 3B Addy Watts came through with an RBI triple with two outs in the top of the 8th inning as #7 Aces Fastpitch Club pulled out a 5-4 win over American Freedom National.

“A ton of fight and heart to battle that out,” Aces coach Ryan Taylor said. “A lot of loud outs that didn’t go our way. (Oklahoma-committed 2025 RHP) Allyssa Parker came in and was great. (Missouri State-bound OF/MIF) Brynn Romine (had a) huge two-out hit. (Missouri-committed 2025 1B/OF) Sid Forrester (had) ice in her veins, coming up clutch to tie it up in the 7th. Addy Watts gave us an insurance run in ITB!” …

Texas-committed 2025 IF Caigan Crabtree went 3 for 3 with a run and two RBIs and Arizona State-bound RHP Cambree Creager threw four hitless innings with two strikeouts as #6 Texas Bombers Gold-Smith took care of Texas Glory 2024, 12-0. …

2026 UT/RHP Jess Shuman had a three-run homer, uncommitted 2025 OF Kaycee Slovack had a three-run triple and Texas-committed 2025 IF/UT Jaycie Nichols had a two-run triple as #26 Epic National-Smith overwhelmed Wisconsin Lightning 2024/25, 13-2. …

Arkansas-bound RHP Cameryn Harrison, the Texas Gatorade State Player of the Year, allowed two hits and struck out nine in six innings as #16 Impact Gold-Jackson blanked Midwest Speed National-Hall, 2-0. …

Toledo-committed P Olivia Signorino allowed two hits and one run and struck out three while walking seven in seven innings to get the win as #49 Indiana Magic Gold-Green defeated Starz Gold-Bigham, 6-1. …

Sam Houston State-committed 2025 MIF Avery Maurer went 3 for 3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs to help Bombers Gold-Jacoby to a 13-0 win over #28 Virginia Glory National-Willemssen. …

Kentucky-bound RHP Carson Fall threw a one-hitter with six strikeouts in seven innings to lead #9 Texas Glory past OC Batbusters-Lara, 3-0. …

In 16U Regionals:

2026 SS McLaine Hudson went 4 for 4 with a double, a triple, four runs and an RBI as #34 Louisville Lady Sluggers-Wathen knocked off #11 Iowa Premier National-Dickel/James, 11-3.

“We really got our bats going today,” Hudson said. “Our lineup can really swing it from top to bottom, so it was good for us to get going in a big game like that. (Central Florida-committed 2025 RHP) Tori (Payne) and (Northern Kentucky-committed 2025 LHP) Abigail (Byrd) really were tough today and I’m really proud of how our defense stepped up.” …

Murray State-committed 2025 RHP Brianna Knochelman tossed a four-hitter with five strikeouts in seven innings as Unity-Slezak upset #30 Louisville Lady Sluggers-Huecker/Norwood, 1-0. 2026 1B Danielle Audet homered in the bottom of the 2nd inning for Unity’s run.

“It’s a huge win for our girls,” Unity coach Keith Slezak said. “We have an immense amount of respect for the Sluggers organization. One swing of the bat got us the W. It was a hard-fought game by both teams. We’re on the fortunate side of this one. Knochelman just threw an unbelievable performance. The outfielders covered a lot of ground. Some great plays by our (Southeast Missouri State-committed 2025) 3B Sydney Miles. (Murray State-committed 2025 C) Allison Waldron caught a girl stealing.” …
