Club News: Day 1 of Bracket Play at Triple Crown Nationals (July 16, 2024)

The Triple Crown Nationals are being held Tuesday-Thursday in Chino Hills, CA (All rankings are Line Drive Hot 50 Club National Rankings):

In 18U:

Sacred Heart-bound 3B/C/OF Catherine Calzada came through with a grand slam in the bottom of the 7th inning as #32 USA Athletics Gold-Rogers rallied for six runs in the bottom of the 7th inning for the 8-6 walk-off win over Bownet Sports Academy.

“In order to mentally prepare myself for that pressure situation, I made sure to center myself and focus on my mechanics,” Calzada aid. “I kept telling myself that this moment is a privilege and something I’ve always wanted to be in. I’ve practiced being in this situation so many times, therefore I knew I was capable of succeeding. While I was in the box, I was only looking for a pitch that I could drive right-center for a base hit.

“Before I hit that ball, it’s almost as if I felt it coming and the game slowed down all up until my barrel hit the bat. Right off the bat, I knew it was gone. I was so excited while I was rounding the bases it felt like a movie ending. If it weren’t for the energy my teammates provided in the dugout, and the quality at-bats of the girls hitting before me, it might’ve ended differently. This win was definitely a whole team effort!” …

#1 OC Batbusters-Stith, the defending two-time Alliance national champion, made quick work of #42 Lady Magic-Boykin, 11-1, in its opening round game.

“Strong outing in the circle by (2026 RHP) Lilliana Escobar and (2025 RHP) Sawyer Denser,” Batbusters coach Mike Stith said. “(2026 OF) Kale’a Tindal had a couple (of) real hard hustle plays to advance the offense on the bases. (Florida-bound OF) Taylor Shumaker, (Oklahoma-committed 2025 CF) Kai Minor, (Oklahoma-bound C) Corri Hicks and (BYU-bound 1B) Breanna Townsend contributed with big hits that led to big innings.” …

#3 Athletics Mercado-Smith took care of Centra; Cal Dirtdogs-Close, 9-1, in its opening round game. Texas-bound RHP Cambria Salmon had seven strikeouts in three innings and Boise State-bound 1B Makenzie Butt belted a three-run homer for the Athletics. …

Minnesota-committed 2025 3B/C Keali Cochran went 1 for 2 with a homer and two RBIs as #44 Corona Angels-Howard held on to beat Cal Thunder-LeVier/Milton, 3-2. …

Columbia-committed P Madeline Lawson threw three scoreless innings, allowing one run and striking out three to lead #29 LTG-Henderson past So Cal Choppers VC, 4-0. …

Washington-committed LF Kaycie Burdick went 2 for 2 with a homer and two RBIs and 2025 C Haiylee Reeves homered to help Mojo-Pikas defeat Oregon Thunder, 7-2. …

Southern Miss-bound OF Carrie Green had four hits, including two home runs, fives runs and six RBIs as #33 Top Gun National-Turner cruised past Rogue FC-Kaye, 19-4. …

UCLA-bound C Sofia Mujica went 4 for 5 with two home runs and four RBIs as #18 NW Bullets-Campos rolled over Washington Angels Premier-Benson/Sitsler, 21-1. …

2025 OF Breanna Figueroa and 2026 OF/C Bri Smith had three hits apiece as Arizona Storm National-Mathis beat OC Batbusters-Lara, 6-1, and Figueroa hit two home runs and had eight RBIs to power Arizona Storm National-Mathis past Colorado Batbusters Gold-Burgess, 13-2. …

2026 C/1B/3B Brooklyn Paratore, a U-15 Team USA member, hit a two-run home run in the top of the 6th inning as Firecrackers Leles 2026 rallied to beat Firecrackers Brashear-Koenig, 4-3. …

2026 RHP Madi Doty allowed zero runs in 6.1 innings, 2027 MIF/OF/UT Finlee Williams and 2027 C/1B/OF Emily Souders homered and 2026 RHP/OF Avery Howerton had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run as #20 Texas Glory defeated Suncats Jimenez-Gutierrez, 4-3. …

2026 MIF Laine Mcocky went 3 for 4 with a home run, three runs and five RBIs as Universal Fastpitch-Macias beat Corona Angels-Howard, 11-8. …

2027 C/1B/3B Lainey Clapp hit two home runs and drove in three runs for Arizona Storm-Leathers, but So Cal Athletics-DK picked up a 12-7 win. …
