Sacred Heart-bound 3B/C/OF Catherine Calzada came through with a grand slam in the bottom of the 7th inning as #32 USA Athletics Gold-Rogers rallied for six runs in the bottom of the 7th inning for the 8-6 walk-off win over Bownet Sports Academy.
“In order to mentally prepare myself for that pressure situation, I made sure to center myself and focus on my mechanics,” Calzada aid. “I kept telling myself that this moment is a privilege and something I’ve always wanted to be in. While I was in the box, I was only looking for a pitch that I could drive right-center for a base hit.
“Before I hit that ball, it’s almost as if I felt it coming and the game slowed down all up until my barrel hit the bat. Right off the bat, I knew it was gone. I was so excited while I was rounding the bases it felt like a movie ending. If it weren’t for the energy my teammates provided in the dugout, and the quality at-bats of the girls hitting before me, it might’ve ended differently. This win was definitely a whole team effort!” …
