Club News: 18U, 16U & 14U Champions Crowned at Atlanta Legacy Showcase Invitational (July 14, 2024)

The Atlanta Legacy Showcase Invitational was held July 11-14 in Atlanta, GA (All rankings Line Drive Hot 50 Club National Rankings):

18U: ACES FASTPITCH CLUB DEF. TAMPA MUSTANGS-SEYMOUR VIA FORFEIT

#7 Aces Fastpitch Club defeated Tampa Mustangs-Seymour via forfeit when the Tampa Mustangs decided not to play the 18U final of the Atlanta Legacy Showcase Invitational final on Sunday at Lost Mountain.

The Aces received $10,000 for first place and the Mustangs received $5,000 for second place.

Uncommitted 2026 OF Abreya Perry went 6 for 8 with three RBIs and Oklahoma-committed 2025 RHP/MIF Allyssa Parker 4 for 6 with two homers and eight RBIs in three games for the Aces on Sunday.

“(I’m) really proud of my team!” Aces coach Ryan Taylor said. “We continually focus on practice and preparing week in week out. (We’re) consistently challenging ourselves against the best to be prepared for college on and off the field. They have met the challenge and played a gauntlet over the last 20 days. They battled through it mentally and physically to be champions.”

“Results are great, but how they go about their business and respecting each other and the game continues to impress me. I’m proud of who they are as people and look forward to our final week at Alliance Nationals.”

The Aces beat #28 Virginia Glory National-Willemssen, 8-0, Fusion National-Unruh/Greenwood, 9-0, and Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier, 8-4, in bracket play.

16U: LOUISVILLE LADY SLUGGERS-WATHEN, UNITY 2026-JOHNSON CO-CHAMPIONS

#34 Louisville Lady Sluggers-Wathen and Unity 2026-Johnson decided bot to play the 16U final and shared the title at the Atlanta Legacy Showcase Invitational on Sunday at Lost Mountain.

Unity coach Josh Johnson said Unity and the Lady Sluggers shared the first-place ($10,000) and second-place ($5,000) prize money.

Uncommitted 2026 SS McLaine Hudson (.542 AVG, .958 SLG, 2 triples, 2 HRs, 11 runs, 7 SBs), Central Florida-committed 2025 RHP/UT Tori Payne (.455 AVG, .636 SLG, 4 doubles, 7 RBIs) and uncommitted 2027 Haley McGuire (.412 AVG, .471 SLG) were the Lady Sluggers offensive leaders for the tournament. Payne (4-0, 1.42 ERA, 19.2 IP, 3 BBs, 16 Ks) was the Lady Sluggers’ top pitcher.

“It was a good weekend against great competition,” Lady Sluggers coach Shannon Wathen said. “(It was a) total team effort all weekend on both sides of the ball. (We’re) looking forward to a few days of rest before heading to Indy for Alliance Nationals.”

2026 RHP Nevaeh Williams, 2026 RHP Violett Flynn and 2026 RHP Camryn Winiarski had dominant performances in the circle on Sunday to lead Unity-Johnson to the championship game.

Williams kept #22 Georgia Impact 08-Taylor off balance, holding them to four hits and striking out five in 7.0 innings in a 6-1 win. Flynn allowed five hits and one run with five Ks in 6.0 innings in a 5-1 win over Atlanta Vipers Gold 09-Crenshaw. Winiarski allowed no hits and struck out two in 7.0 innings in a 5-3 win over Lady Dukes Gold-Torres/McHale.

“We had a really good week for sure,” Johnson said. “We’re starting to put things together. We’ll be out there (PGF Nationals)in four days. I feel like we’re in a good spot.”

The Lady Sluggers defeated #2 Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier 2026-Thompson, 2-0, #38 Mojo-Sherrill, 8-5, Rock Gold-de Leon/Manetta, 10-6, and #23 Athletics Gold Tamborra, 6-3, in bracket play to reach the final.

Unity-Johnson beat Explosion-Kim/Adame Black, 6-3, Atlanta Vipers Gold 09-Crenshaw, 5-1, #22 Georgia Impact 08-Taylor, 6-1, and #33 Lady Dukes Gold-Torres/McHale, 5-3, in bracket play to reach the championship game.

14U: HOTSHOTS NATIONAL 09-NELSON 9, UNITY-AMSLER/JOHNSON 0

#4 Hotshots National 09-Nelson used a six-run outburst in the top of the 4th inning to take care of #5 Unity-Amsler/Johnson, 9-0, in the 14U championship game of the Atlanta Legacy Showcase Invitational on Sunday at Central Park.

Hotshots-Nelson received $10,000 prize money for first place and Unity-Amsler/Johnson received $5,000 for second place.

“This weekend was an impressive overall performance for our team,” Hotshots coach Joey Palmer said. “The event was full of great competition and hats off to a great Unity-Amsler(/Johnson) team that made it to the championship game.”

2027 OF/IF Reagan “Peanut” Schmitz had an RBI single, 2027 MIF Kira Bailey had a two-run single, 2027 1B/UT Daniella Villareal had a two-run double and 2027 SS/UT Maliyah Harrison had an RBI groundout during the Hotshots’ six-run rally.

Bailey (.500 AVG, .533 OBP, 1.176 OPS, 2 doubles, 6runs, 4 RBIs), 2028 SS/C Jayde Palmer (.462 AVG, .500 OBP, 1.269 OPS, 2 doubles, 4 runs, 6 RBIs), Harrison (.412 AVG, 1.212 OPS, 3 triples, 6 runs, 4 RBIs), Schmitz (.400 AVG, .879 OPS), 2027 OF/C JLee Van Driel (.300 AVG, 9 runs, 4 RBIs) and Villareal (.375 AVG, 1.382 OPS, 2 HRs, 5 runs, 7 RBIs) led the Hotshots on offense for the tournament.

2028 RHP Anniston Shelton (2-0, 0.71 ERA, 31 Ks), 2027 LHP Morgan Maxwell (2-0, 1.08 ERA, 13 Ks) and 2027 RHP Kadeyn “KK” Patin (3-0, 1.85 ERA, 15 Ks) led the Hotshots’ pitching staff.

“Through the weekend, our pitchers (KK Patin, Morgan Maxwell and Annie Shelton) were outstanding; they set the tone for each game and kept us in control from start to finish,” Palmer said.

“The baserunning was aggressive and smart, allowing us to capitalize on every opportunity. But most importantly, this victory was a total team effort. Every player contributed and the chemistry on the field and in the dugout was exceptional. I couldn’t be prouder of these young ladies and the hard work they’ve put in so far this season.”

#4 Hotshots National 09-Nelson defeated #39 LLG Futures VA-Wools, 4-1, Athletics Gold Tamborra 10-Vallery, 6-2, #47 Atlanta Vipers Gold 2020-Lynch, 5-2, and #17 Athletics Gold Tamborra 09-Hamilton, 11-4, in bracket play to reach the final.

#5 Unity-Amsler/Johnson beat Fusion National-Unruh/Hobgood, 16-6, Midlands Mayhem, 6-1, Unity 2027-TJ, 8-2, Lady Dukes Gold-Torres/Jones, 12-3, and Newtown Rock 09-Bodick, 1-0, in bracket play to reach the final.

“This championship is a testament to their dedication and teamwork,” Palmer said. “Next up is the PGF (Nationals) in Southern California. This tourney was a great proving ground for us, but we still have a lot to work on over the few weeks.”
