Super seniors Layla Odgen and McLaine Hudson hold their well-earned Kentucky State Championship hardware!

It’s official.

South Warren (Bowling Green, Ky.) High blanked a strong Bullitt East (Mt. Washington, Ky.) 8-0 Saturday night in the state championship game to finish 45-0 and solidify its hold onto the No. 1 spot in the Line Drive SUPER 70 High School Softball Team Rankings.

In other words: we have your 2026 National Champs!

Starting pitcher Courtney Norwood, the junior committed to the Kentucky Wildcats, pitched a two-hit masterpiece, not giving up the first hit until the 7th inning when her Lady Spartans already were comfortably ahead by the eight runs.

The scoring came via two runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning, three in the 4th and the final three in the 6th.

Norwood had five strikeouts—including the last out of the game—versus just one walk in the complete game victory. She finished her season with a sparkling 26-0 record.

Offensively, the victory came courtesy of a balanced attack that saw seven of the South Warren players get at least one hit.

Leadoff hitter McLaine Hudson, the outfielder signed with Florida State and this year’s Kentucky Gatorade State Player of the Year for the second year in a row, was the first of five straight in the lineup who are seniors and played their final game in Lady Spartan colors tonight.

She went 1-for-3, Hadley Borders (signed with Missouri) also was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Parker Willoughby (Ohio State) was 1-for-4 with an RBI, cleanup hitter Layla Odgen (Western Kentucky) was 0-for-2 with a sac RBI and Kinleigh Russell (Oklahoma State) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Senior Kaylee Wilson, batting in the 8-spot, also was 2-for-3.

For the Kentucky State tournament, Courtney Norwood was the MVP and Kinleigh Russell and McLaine Hudson were All-Tournament selections.

Here’s the last out courtesy of Sporting Times:

… and another angle via Bowling Green Preps:

South Warren had eight runs on nine hits and no errors; Bullitt East had no runs on the two hits with two errors.

Courtney Norwood holds her well-deserved Tournament MVP plaque.

Tonight’s victory closes the 2026 campaign for the Bluegrass State powerhouse with one of the most dominating seasons on record.

Check out these jaw-dropping stats in the team’s 45 victories:

  • The Lady Spartans outscored opponents this year 565-to-37,
  • That’s a per game score average of 12.5 runs to less than one (0.8).
  • South Warren trailed just twice all season!
  • In the Kentucky State playoffs, the team outscored opponents 100-3.
  • Only one team scored against them in the playoffs.

We’ll have much more on tonight’s championship win over the weekend and into next week prior to our final SUPER 70 rankings of the season.
