14U: BOMBERS GOLD FUTURES-MALPASS 8, IMPACT GOLD NATIONAL 2012-CAVE 2

Bombers Gold Futures-Malpass, the reigning 14U Tier 3 Alliance national champion, cruised to an 8-2 victory over Impact Gold National 2012-Cave in the 14U championship game o the Triple Crown Bomber Shootout on Sunday at Travis Fields at Bryan Midtown Park.

2030 1B Blanca Gonzales, 2031 OF Kaliyah Martin and 2030 3B/UT Sophie Montemayor led a lineup that scored 46 runs for the tournament.

In the circle, it was a complete staff performance. All four pitchers — 2030 P Layla Werner, 2030 P Aubrey Prescott, 2030 P Nora Griffin and 2030 P Kourtney Eargle — finished with an ERA under 2.00.

“This event is always one of the stronger tournaments of the spring season and this young group showed real growth, maturity and toughness all weekend long,” Bombers coach Kristi Malpass said. “After dropping Game 1 on Saturday, they responded the right way — not losing another game the rest of the weekend. That kind of bounce-back shows growth. It shows maturity starting to surface in this group.”

Bombers Gold Futures-Malpass defeated Wow Factor National 2K12, 7-1, Texas Blaze United-Cain, 6-4, and Impact Gold National 2012-Cave, 8-2, in bracket games.

“The Gold Bracket was fun,” Malpass said. “Lining up against three other top young teams in Texas and battling game after game — that’s what makes you better. Going from one tough matchup to the next and finishing on top says a lot about who they’re becoming.”

Impact Gold National 2012-Cave beat Impact Gold NTX-Ones, 6-1, Glory Adkins Gold, 3-1, and lost to Bombers Gold Fututes-Malpass, 8-2, in bracket games.
